Funny how things work out.

Fear the Mullet

Recently the wife and I are in a situation where every vehicle we own (all 5 of them) were broke down. The 98 Metro has frame issues, the 93 Metro I got off Wobblybob is severely rotted out (project car), my 92 XFi broke a rear control arm mount on the way to my brother's wedding, the mud truck needs rear end and transfer case work, and the 96 Monte Carlo is another rotted out pice of junk.

I helped a friend sell a 93 4 door Automatic and for selling it for him, he gave me the "parts car" which is a 91 4 door Auto. I figured this parts car would be mostly stripped out and in bad shape, but when me and member Wobblybob went to get it today, we were astounded when we found out this car was complete and totally rust free since it's from Washington State. This car needs a gas tank, exhaust, and the engine, trans condition is unknown. The hood and headlight buckets are smashed up, but the rest of the body is straight.

Tonight I got a call from my good friend Scott (member pacopperhead) and last I knew he wanted to get his rust-free 96 hatchback down to my house to fix it because of a deer collision. He told me on the phone that he is looking at another Metro and does not want to put any more money into his 96 so he tells me I can have it :ermm: Now I have to make the trip to Central Pa to pick it up. The car overheats so that would need addressed first before driving it back.

Looks like this would put the wife and I in 2 rust free cars. Here is the game plan for the 91 4 door..............

Pull the fuel tank, hood, front bumper, headlights, etc from the rotted 93 hatchback and swap to the 91 4-door. See if it will run and then possibly do a 5-speed conversion. Swap out other interior parts and whatever else I need and then part out the remainder of the 93 hatchback.

Game plan for the 96 is to figure out how to get it here to Ohio from 6 hours away by taking some parts and hopefully fix the overheating problem so it can be driven home. Otherwise I would have to tow it home. Swap whatever damaged parts are needed from the deer collision by taking those from the 98 Metro.

Now after all this, I would have to get rid of some cars. I figure I could fix my 92 rear control arm and either keep it for a winter ride or sell it cheap to make up for some of the costs involved in all this. I could also patch up the 98 and sell it cheap or just keep it for I don't know what. I love Christine, but she is pretty rotten and I don't need all these damn cars.

I want to put a huge "Thank you" out there for the members of this forum. Many of you have sent me messages offering other car chassis and offering help to get me rolling. Thank you very much for your support!

I want to give special thanks to member pacopperhead and member Wobblybob for what they have already done to help me out :cheers

I will keep you all updated. Right now I need to get the 96 here and I have a ton of work to do to get the 91 4-door running. I don't know how I am going to do this all, but I will figure it out.

Sounds like you have a solid plan.
Just concentrate on getting the '91 rolling. I've been in similar situations before, and NOTHING helps the ole noggin as much as just having ONE that just works without much thought. No mater what it is. No upgrades, no modifications, just get the #$%^ thing going. :thumb
Mullet, I'm glad its starting to work out for you. Wish I could help more, your just too damn far away! :P
Next time you roll through Bama, I got a :beer with your name on it!

I just got off the phone with Wobblybob and it looks like we will go up Monday with the car dolly to pick up the 96 Hatchback. 12 hours driving round trip, so it's gonna be a long day. Well worth it though. If the 96 is overheating, it's best not to chance driving it home.

If you do the auto to 5 speed swap and have any questions , feel free to contact me. I have done two and they work just fine.

JM, glad to hear things are working out for you.

Are you gonna have any extra parts from the 93 Metro? I will be in Pataskala next weekend visiting family for a few days. Just wondering..
