87 Chevy Sprint Turbo; what a blast

The ad on craigslist late afternoon yesterday.

87 Chevy Turbo Sprint - Mechanics Special - $400 (Mid Town Anchorage)
Date: 2011-08-30, 3:31PM AKDT
1987 Chevy Sprint Turbo Hatchback.

Mechanics special, needs work. This car ran great when it was parked 2 years ago. Everything worked, passed IM etc. Wont start now. Dead battery for sure but other than that, may need a good plug cleaning and then should run?? 114,000 miles. This is the same car as the Geo Metro with a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder turbo engine. No tags, have clean title. Must be moved from lot one week after purchase, cant work on it in the lot, other than to jump or tow it, my landlord doenst allow it and wants it gone. May also be valuable for parts as these are very hard to come by.

Great on gas, great in snow. Also a set of good winter studs (hard to find 12" tires), and a Factory Service Manual (not the lame Chilton one). $400 OBO As is. Cash only.

call or text message to Hugh

Texted immediately I'd buy it.....checked it out on the way to work....bought it at lunch....am heading out to tow it home.
The owner's son said he had a flood of calls and texts on it...and was happy to take it off craigslist at noon.
We offered more for it, obviously, to make sure we got it, but he was really nice and let us have it for $400.
Owned by a little old lady who had it 21 years.
Her son talked her into buying a new Civic 2 years ago.
She still didn't want to part with it, but her son and her landlord persuaded her.
(left my address in case she wanted to come see the progress)
My 17 year old is paying for it...though I pointed out the title will be in my name until he turns 18 in Dec :)

No name for the little beastie yet.

Swapped the batteries, push started the Swift, hooked up the Sprint, lighted up hazzards on both cars, sneaked through mostly back streets for 4 miles.
Did not try to fire it up....not after 2 years.
Don't want to mess anything up.
It has a sun roof, roof top carrier, block heater, rear window defroster, A/C (don't need it at all), and, no kidding...the radio.
Frame horns appear solid....first thing I checked this morning :)

No doubt, that is a sweet first car. Added bonus, if they're hard on the clutch, like most younguns are, Mom can roll up her sleeves, drop the tranny and fix/replace it. :hmm ^o)

Kid is good with clutch....and if he breaks it, he can fix it.
He put some solvent in the cylinders overnight...and in the oil.
Tomorrow he'll turn the crank by hand.
I don't know what's all under the hood yet...his factory service manual doesn't have turbo.

Liquid Wrench + Fuel Injector Cleaner in cylinders overnight.
Had sparkplugs back in to keep the FIC from evaporating.
Today he could nudge the crankshaft bolt.
Added Marvel Mystery Oil and gas to the cylinders, leaving spark plugs out.
Added MMO to camshafts, too.
He can now move the crankshaft so that gas/MMO comes out cylinders #1 and #3.
He is not able to go any farther, because it feels 'blocked'.
He can feel the compression.
All spark plugs are out.
What are we missing? Edit: He had it in gear.
Oh....and the rear seat is split fold down. :)
