No. I had not considered it.
I considered it lucky I had a spare of the original.
So thanks for the post.
In dropping the exhaust to put the oil pan back in, the bolt sheared off.
Of course.
So, now we have to get a bolt.
On the brighter side, he's biking to work and I get to drive. :)

So, the answer to the idle tensioner damage is.... a bolt.
The present metro waterpump has a thinner base than the original sprint waterpump.
The all-thread on the side of the block that fits through the base of the waterpump was sticking out too far.
The idle tensioner was catching on it.
We debated filing it down, and left it as is so that it will accommodate the right water pump.
We added a spacer (another tensioner bracket with tabs filed off) to keep the tensioner off the bolt.
The timing belt cover was not put back on.
It is clear from the scuff marks, that the alternate pulleys are not a match for the cover.
This way we can check the crank and cam seals for leaks.
I imagine he'll eventually do a Bad Bent and use only the top portion of the timing belt cover.
The biggest lift....after fussing over it for 5 days was....
No more muffled clattering noise :banana

This thread bears an update.
The car is going strong.....and he loves driving it.
Last fall he began by watching which quickly progressed into 'I've got it' and take over what I was doing and then.... I was banned. :(
He said, and I quote.......... 'do not touch my car'. :'(
I forgot to tighten something and he broke down the next day with no tools in the back seat. :smackface
Still, no matter the conditions outside.....snow, rain, wind, day, night, cold, dirt, grease....no matter how inappropriately I am dressed, he insists that I come see what he's doing....and oftentimes I have to crawl under the car to check it out....and I always get my hands dirty.....and sometimes I forget and reach for a tool....and he says 'tut, tut, tut'....and I quietly put down the tool and put my hands in my pockets.
I miss working on his car. ;)
It was fun while it lasted. B-)

20 degrees this morning.
I heard the Sprint turbo start up this morning.
Idle is probably 1000 rpms and it self revs up to maybe 2500 rpms and then crashes down to 1000 rpms.......every 5 seconds.
Guess its been doing that for awhile.
I'd like to get this fixed before it gets cold...er.
Anyone want to jump in on this?

sounds like its a vac leak. Have you checked all the hoses? use windex or brake cleaner with the hose on it to stream it into places, be careful not to set yourself on fire tho. When the idle changes you found your problem. Also have you tested your ECT sensor? that also could throw off idle.

Buy it
If you can get it running, you'll move a lot of mountains to keep it running, because its just plain fun to drive.
Hans says he'll never sell it.
He says he'll run it into the ground and then blow it up.

Will do when I get the chance.
The lines are pretty new, but you never know.

Lines look good
This time I was out there when he started up the car.
It idled fine for a minute or two.
Then it cycled between 2800 and 2300.
It took me a couple of minutes to get my phone outside to take a video
Now cycling between 2300 and 2000.
Turned off the heater fan to hear the engine better.
The cycling sound went away.
Heater fan back on...... cycling came back.
Turned it off..... idle cycling went away.
It's avoidable, but still needs to be fixed.

Note: Additional problem of spongy brakes and unable to get rid of the air in the line.
Thought it was related to the idling problem via the vacuum booster line, but the line looks good.

But I just got a Turbo3 engine complete last week.
