So at 3:30pm I get a text from my wife. She posted my blue metro on craigslist at 3:10 pm. At 3:32 I get a call from a guy wanting to know everything about my metro. I tell him the specifics expect the mileage. The wife didn't put that in the listing. I tell him "I think it has well over 100k on the clock". He wants to know where he can see it, so I tell him where its at and I will be there at 5:00pm. About five minutes later I recieve another call about my metro. Every ten minutes I'm getting a phone call or text asking about my metro. I call the wife and ask her, "why didn't you ask me when would be a good time to list the metro? I'm am at work right now, ya know?" She said, "I thought people would call later tonight". Yea right.

So after I clock out at work, I still am inundated will phone call about my metro. I finally had to count them. 14 phone calls, 3 emails from 3:32pm until 5:00pm. Grrrrrr.

I pull into my driveway and there are two sets of buyers looking at my metro. Hmmm, should I start a bidding war? While I'm walking up to the first buyer, my phone rings, again. Man, I must have some sort of great mojo with people wanting to buy my metro. The guy hops in, takes it for a spin, jumps out and says, "I'll buy it." I turn to the second buyer and just say, "I'm sorry, but he got here first."

Moral of the story, make sure you clean your car before you take pictures. Make darn sure everything works correctly. And price it right. If you do these things then your metro will sell quickly.

What was I asking for it? $800. I thought it was a fair price, since all of the metros around here that are over $1000 are in bad repair. I made a couple of bucks on the deal so I'm happy. They guy who bought it was happy because now he can get rid of his Explorer. It was killing him in the gasoline department.

Just a neat story. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

Right after I primered and painted the 92 XFi I parked it in the front yard to take pics and people started pulling in thinking it was for sale. It was there for less than an hour. Even later that night a guy knocked on the door telling me his buddy seen a Geo in my yard for sale.

What started making me mad was the sheer number of calls. I was expecting maybe 3-4 in a couple of days time. No way was did I believe that metro would have soo much interest. Maybe folks are tired of throwing a hundred buck in their gas tanks everytime they fill up.

I did flat out deny one fellow the right to purchase my metro. He told me his 18 year old daughter was looking for her first car. I told him there was no way I would sell it to him because as a novice driver she did not have the experience to be a good defensive driver. I could tell that he was thinking very hard about that piece of advise. I knew I might have blown a sale, but at least I might have talked him into buying something more sturdy for his daughter. He appreciated my honesty and I said "your daughters life is more important than the cost of a cheaply priced car." I hope he bought something larger for her.

She'll be missing it, soon. As much as you did to that car, you could have easily sold it for $1000 more. Geo Metros on Craigslist last exactly 3 hours. Be sure to remove your CL ad. They'll be calling you for weeks if you don't.
