It's always darkest just before the dawn. Good to hear you finally found your noise. |

Update........ First off, I posted in another thread about the hit and run and had to replace a fender....... ![]() ![]() This weekend I needed to fix the exhaust. After gutting the cat, the exhaust was loud because of a broken muffler inlet, and a blown donut gasket. Also the resonator was full of crap, so I replaced the muffler, bypassed the resonator, and replaced the donut gasket. Guess what? The knock is still there! I guess I just could not hear it because of the exhaust leaks? I got a quote from a local machine shop to do the block and head and about shit my pants! The only block I got left that I know makes no noise is the one from Ecomudder, but the noise could be coming from the head. My last conversation with Coyote X went well and we may have pinpointed the problem to the head. The last time I tore it down, the lifters were all frozen and this could be due to blocked oil passages. this head was milled because I have the timing belt tensioner at max to get it tight. What confuses me is this head never knocked on my brothers car. One good thing is I installed a rear hatch release in the car and this is a very nice feature! I suppose I will swap heads before totally giving up on it and break down and get another engine, but my doubts are overwhelming on this. I will say this. I have re-used the Felpro head gasket on this bitch 3 times now

Is there anything on an intake manifold that has been overheated that could make a knock? |

I keep going back to Bad Bent having tracked down a ticking to a blown EGR gasket. Any chance a bigger leak there might sound like a knock? or Perhaps something is AFU with the EGR valve itself? Only other think I can think of on the manifold would be if the throttle body were not bolted down correctly but I would expect running issues then with a likely vacuum leak not just a noise... |

The car runs great and I forgot to mention that I replaced the EGR gasket and checked the EGR. This noise is internal as far as I know. Could be a thrust washer or bad main bearing I suppose. Using a stethoscope does not pinpoint the location of the noise at all. If I were up to date in the tech world, I would post a video, but regardless, I gotta tear it down anyway. |

I would think that a thrust bearing knock would stop or get worse when you stepped on the clutch. |

Had a loud knock on acceleration that drove me crazy. Finally figured out it was the cam gear bolt that had loosened up somehow. Tightened it up & the sun came out, the snow melted, birds started singing. Well anyways, the noise finally stopped. Might just give yours a look see. |
