I could not understand why the exhaust rocker shafts were not receiving oil. I inspected them and noticed a dark spot that covered the oil hole in the head, I asked on here adn no one heard of any oil delivery problems, but I had lifters that wouldn't pump up. so..... I took a round file and my Dremil and slightly beveled the oil hoses on my rocker shafts to allow more direct path for oil to the shafts and rockers.![]() Well I guess it worked my lifters are quiet and the car runs well so Did I improve it? Maybe maybe not but I sure didn't hurt it! ![]() This is before I "modified" the shafts and I hope both pictures came through you can see the after one too. |

Back in the 80s we used to do the same thing to high mileage small block Chevy rockers so they would oil properly. Good fix.

You are not the first one with this issue. I have read several other threads on the lack of oil to the rockers on the 4 cyl's. I bought one that had the rocker shaft worn almost in half because of it. Not knowing any better, I just went to the junkyard and got a whole "new" valve train. One of our members figured out that the rockers wears over time and slide sideways, thus, covering the oil supply holes. He was able to create a shim to move the rockers back into position and get the oil back to the lifters also. Not having a machine shop, I would use your fix. |
