Doing the rebuild in 94 geo metro 3 cyl. and I found that lifters did not have any spring action..no movement at all... How important is to have lifters some spring action? if they don't have spring action...can that be reason for low compression like 80,120,140 in respective cylinder? when I look at rings.pistons and valves they look ok...so wondering if this lifters could be the culprit for low compression? also, once I disassembled and cleaned the lifters they all have spring action...can I reuse them or I have to buy each of them new? |

If you took them apart and cleaned them, make sure you assembled thew inner barrel correctly. Cleaning them is just fine. I clean mine all the time when doing rebuilds. |

Everyone just cleans them up and reuses them. They are too expensive new to buy a whole new set and I've yet to hear of a worn out lifter for these cars. |

Thanks...but may I know what are the symptoms of stuck lifters(no spring action)? what happens to car how it runs and it has any effect on compression? |

That may be the case but lifter design did change over the years. There is a benefit to using newer lifters in an older engine. Just saying. |

You're right, I almost forgot about that. The bleed hole is larger on the newer ones, aren't they? |
