here it goes bought it used had been sitting for 5 years guy got it running. Test drove it ran great drove 50 miles home no problems. Drove it 30 miles to and from work for about three weeks. feeling pretty smug 80 dollar gas bill a week dropped to 20.Then the finger of god struck i get about 15 to twenty miles into my drive and it losses power. Like it has ran out of gas ( doesn't die stays running ). drops it down to an idle feather the gas petal an it picks up. the dropping to an idle not good at highway speed. Now the repairs. 1. replaced fuel filter 2. replaced fuel pump 3.replaced fuel pressure regulator and checked to make sure injector was working properly While doing all that it ran great but still had the original problem. 4.changed plugs wires and cap. Drove to the same spot where it losses power lost power but now sputters and wants to die 5. replaced throttle position sensor. Now it is very very hard to start, backfires without starting when i get it to run it a very rough idle. Just now looking a timing belt looks OK, oh and it didn't throw any codes. please help i'm grinding my teeth on this one |

Go to Harbor Freight and pick up a compression tester. It's easy to test your car with one. Read up the how-to on this forum. Let us know how it tested. |

Have you checked to make sure your cel is working? Turn the switch on but do not crank it and see if your cel comes on for a couple of seconds. If not, maybe the bulb is burned out. You might have codes and do not know it. Did you drain the old gas out of the car that sit in it for five years? Welcome to the forum. |

Sounds like the fuel injector is crapping out. |

I suspect this as well with that old gas and crud in those fuel lines. I would buy a small gas filter and put it at the tbi intake line as added precaution. As for a clogged injector you might try this but be very careful doing so. Pull the gas line off the tbi and plug it with a bolt and hose clamp. Buy a can of carburator cleaner with the little plastic nozzle on it. Have someone crank the starter over while you take the can of carburator cleaner and stick the little nozzle in the tbi inlet fuel line. With the car cranking over the injector will be pulsing and a few good shots of carburator cleaner might loosen the thing up and cleaner out! ![]() . |

hello well checked timing marks on crank and cam sprockets all line up according to book ( notches and pin hole with arrow. Got it all back together now it back fires through throttle body an doesn't want to start. Sprayed carb cleaner in tube, no help. Can it be timed with it not running? why i ask is that the notch on pulley is past the timing mark on the cover by about a 1/8 of an inch. I don't know just losing my confidence. Thanks for your time i really appreciate it. |

Recheck spark plug wires and make sure they are in the correct order on the cap and to the right plug. |

The wires on engine are correct. I am a might confused about the distributor the diagrams show a circle with numbered circles in it now confusion starts with how the circle is oriented to the engine. It show a rectangle for the engine and to the right is the circle now is the top of the ciecle closest to the rectangle or the side towards the top of the page? I feel so stupid asking but i am really getting mentaly beat up by this |

#1 is on top. Engine rotates clockwise from passenger side. #3 would be the next in line with #2 at the last position. There are manuals that have the firing order messed up. It's 1-3-2 |

Here's hoping you are successful! If you still lose power a few miles out you might consider loosening the exhaust or removing the O2 sensor to see if exhaust restriction is an issue. |
