Yesterday I purchased my first Geo, 92 Metro Turbo 3 cyl 5 spd My understanding is that turbo only came stock on Canadian cars, I'm sorry but for the moment I have no pictures. Currently the engine runs fantastic. I just replaced all the filters and oil this afternoon to make sure it was in tip top shape. Now something interesting I cannot find any information on is that on this car the little radiator is on the right hand side, but on the left there is a little radiator of sorts, kinda like the back of an air conditioner from your house. It also has a fan on the front of it, opposite of the fan on the back of the radiator. Is this part of the turbo system or is this an AC unit? Friend said he thought something was a pump but I have no clue. There is also a button to the right of the steering wheel that lights up when it is flicked on, but I have zero clue as to it does. Nothing happens as far as I can tell when it is on. There is no AC button on the console either, only the slider for warm and hot. I will try to get pictures asap. Thanks for any help or hints you can offer. (edit) my brain died and I put figured and not figuring...... Edited by Syleion, Sep 14 2011, 03:36 AM.

It's actually my first car, it was $1500. The paint is bad but there appears to be no rust damage and like I said the engine itself runs fantastically. The only thing it had wrong was the fan on the radiator wasn't working but the fan itself ran when attached to a power source, something in the wiring is wrong. I have it jerry rigged to a switch and the battery so I can just turn it on until I can track down the issue in the wiring. Oh and for whatever reason the lock on the drivers side door doesn't work lol, got to figure out how I either go about replacing or fixing that.

Thanks, It was actually in Oregon lol, I'm about 15 mins south of the Cali-Ore border. I have no clue how it got there...it was almost kinda shady really. I found it on craigslist, the actual owner of the car was a mexican who didn't even speak english, another guy was pretty much translating for him. We copied the VN and everything to make sure it was legit. Where would I locate the thermostat? My knowledge of cars is limited but I have many friends who are familiar with it. I just ordered the service manual for it so it will be here in a week or two as well, so it will definitely be a lot easier then. Edited by Syleion, Sep 14 2011, 03:48 AM.

No Turbo Metro, anywhere, anytime. There was a Pontiac Firefly Turbo which was practically the same thing, but there was never a turbo car that actually said Metro on it. What you're describing sounds like the factory A/C condenser, but without pictures it's hard to be sure. Oh yeah, Welcome!!! |

It's possible that it is just some after market tag somebody put on it, It's essentially chrome letters that say geo and then right below geo it says turbo, with the usual metro tag on the opposite side. (the VN does start with a 2, which I read implies canadian) Right above the lights on the back. I'll definitely get pics as soon as I can. Edited by Syleion, Sep 14 2011, 11:39 AM.

Then it was added after the fact. You said a Mexican owned the car, right??? That should clear things up. Take a picture of the engine, I bet there's nothing turbo about it except for the 20 HP sticker on the back. |

Correct, that's what I'm thinking now. Since the chrome Geo letters don't come standard as far as I know. Looking at the engine it doesn't seem turbo. I'm leaning towards it being just the AC but it has not been maintained. |

The most important thing for me is that the body has no rust and the engine runs well. I'm not sure it was worth 1500 but the guy wouldn't budge. |
