lame question of the day: which direction is the thermostat supposed to go in? spring side toward the engine? |

Spring side toward engine. Temperature of coolant on engine side heats up spring and opens thermostat.

Officially it heats up the wax pellet inside that slug of copper in the middle of the thermostat, pushing out a plunger to open up the t-stat. The spring is always fighting it to close the t-stat. |

If there is a small hole in it (little valve), then the hole would go to 12 o'clock for trapped air to pass through and bleed the system. IIRC.

thank you; i noticed someone else on the forums mention that the g10 n/a is supposed to use a 192F thermostat; but oreillys (its closest to me) only has 180 and 195. ive read 180 is too cold. is 195 too hot? thanks; |

192 or 195, pretty much the same thing. I bought one recently at Autozone...their computer claimed it was 180F, thermostat was stamped 89C, which turned out to be 192.2F. Still worked a lot better than the old thermostat. |

thank you, everyone - for the help. i started off with a 180, and so will just put it back - my intention is to block the front as well, so perhaps i will be well prepared for that. another follow up question, then. in putting it back in, it does not have the air bleeder valve that someone mentioned, and i can hear air in the heater core - will it be able to work its way out, or how can i get it out? thanks, again; |

Take the smallest drill bit you can find and drill a hole in the 12 o'clock position on the tstat. The hole gets drilled on the thin metal lip on the outside rim of the tstat. Install the tstat with that hole facing straight up. |
