Hey all! So I found this car for sale: link link. I have been looking for one for a good price the entire summer, and this could be it. My car is a 90 Metro LSi (1.0L, 4dr, 3sp AT), and it's mechanically dying, but is rust-free. Final questions: 1) It has ~72 700 miles on it, which is not a lot, but it is not new. What should I look for in terms of it being a strong engine without problems that will last me a good amount of time? 2) Will the swap be as direct as I hope for it to be, as in take old stuff out, put new stuff in, since this is a complete car, or are there special custom fabrications required? 3) What special tools will I require except for your average toolbox with wrenches and a hammer? If I do end up buying it, I really want to make sure I'll be able to do this job (never done anything this big before), and not just have two Metros in my backyard, which is why I'm asking all of this... So please try to detail all the possible tricky problems I will run into with this swap, cause I also know a place that sells a JDM G10 engine for $450. But, obviously, no manual tranny, same power, still not new, etc... Thanks for your help! |

The G10 to G13 swap isn't a "bolt" on swap. |

Unless that 2001 is rusty as hell, you'd be far better off just driving that. |

i have completely rebuilt g10 engines for a little over 500 bucks. im talking new pistons, bearings, head, machine work, oil pump, engine is basically brand new. but i dont know the resources or ability each individual has. i dont think i would buy a JDM engine for that price any more. i did once and it ran well but its a bit of a gamble. |

In that case I'll start by sending my head to 3tech and seeing if that fixes all my problems. If it does - great, if it doesn't - I'll start looking at the block. Thanks for the advice, guys! |
