I have a 95 g10 and just installed a 76k 96 g10 long block , she has good compresion , 185 / 180 / 190 , installed all new full walker exhaust , cleaned carbon out of passeges , it idles good , but the second you start to give it fuel it coughs , sputters , when you give it more she back fires through the air cleaner , thought the timming was off , but all the marks seamed to line up , no check engine light , the 96 block has a sensor plug under the motor inbetween the oil pan and crank pulley and the 95 block didnt , any ideas , thanks.

96 is OBDII wich uses a crank position sensor for the timing. Your 95 is OBDI, so it does not utilize this so its a non issue. Your timing is off somewhere, wether its the belt or the distributer or your plug wires are mixed up. backfire through throttle body is caused by spark plug firing when the intake valve is open. How many timing marks are on your cam gear? I know some late model engines have two, and you may be lined up to the wrong mark. I could stop by after GFNW tomorrow and take a look. :thumb
