Head bolt torquing, need help ASAP

Re-set torque wrench to 50 for installing new head bolts and still don't hear the clicking sound from the wrench. Bolts feel snug, and if we keep going, it feels like they're going to strip. Is this common that these headbolts strip the block when you keep going on them?

54 lbs

I have never stripped one but then again, my clicker torque wrench always worked. Put you a bolt in a vise and see if you can get your wrench to click.

So, basically, you're telling us to keep going on it? It was set at 50 and it wasn't clicking then.

I suspect you do not have them tight enough. Are you torqueing them in sequence as well?

Yeah, I'll double check & ensure the torque wrench is working. It just feels like if I go any further they are going to trip the threads. I don't remember having this "feel" on my Metro.

Yeah, I'm going in the proper sequence. I'll go out & check the wrench & turn it down as well & see how it feels.

A drop or two of oil on the head bolt threads is nice too.

Yeah, they were pre-lubed as well as the washers. We got them all at 54 now. I set the wrench at 30 all around, then 35, etc. until we got to 54. Just didn't "feel" right, so wanted to re-assurance. Will have a new thread with Ryan's new cylinder head job at mjspiess' parent's barn later!
