I bought a Kubota three cylinder, 900 cc, 26 hp. diesel engine off Craigs list yesterday. Tomorrow I am going to buy a 98

Suzuki Swift. I am thinking "marriage". What do you guys think? Engine produces 40+ foot pounds of torque from 2000

RPM till about 3300. Am I crazy?

Not crazy, however I think the turbocharged model would make it more street able. I see your in Alaska though, so the traffic isnt out to kill you. Here in LA I think the lack of get up and go would dam near put you in danger.

It's doable. The main bug-a-boo will be the electronics. The ecu will not recognize the new motor, so you might want to research how much electrical theory you will need to possess before you begin to tear out your existing motor. Also the engine to transmission marriage will need to be thought about. Some sort of metal plate between both components will have to be frabricated so they will work together.

Youtube has a few videos on metro diesels. Look at those and see if it's worth the effort.

Good Luck.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe it could control the spark lenght on the plugs? Maybe control the injector pulse lenghts? Maybe to increase weight in the car so the 44hp won't snap his neck back during a Jack rabbit takeoff?

I just don't know :hmm

He's removing the engine and replacing it with a Diesel. The stock ECU can go out the window. There aren't even any spark plugs to control!

Someone else did this exact swap, I think. Link to the post about it is -> http://geometroforum.com/topic/758729/1/ <-

You might send him any questions you have about the swap.

You're not crazy, but that wouldn't be a very fun car to drive, and it would not get all that great gas mileage.

The 900 is 18hp the 1100 is the 26hp. High idle is 3200, peak hp is at 3000. Burns about 1.2 gallons per hour at 2800. Plus they don't like cold weather, below about 301 degrees it wont want to run. But the swap should not be a problem.

Well, if that's the Swift that posted on craigslist yesterday, it's a nice looking car.
I have full confidence that if the diesel swap can be done, you'll do it.
Looking forward to seeing it on the road. :)

That engine would probably be best served with the 3.52 tranny.
