To many cars!
[ * * ]
So my metro is starting to get on my nerves:

The run down: 94 base, 1.0, 5-speed.

Originally I had NO bottom end. but an amazing top end! I mean this thing was like a four cylinder. So I advanced the timing one tooth on the camshaft because I was instructed I was one tooth off.
Now the car has great bottom end (taking off up hills off a stop sign) but on the freeway it is a DOG, anything over 1/2-3/4 throttle it just bogs and even slows down/ dives the front end.

The timing was checked and I set it to 10btdc, and then just started adjusting it by ear, Still I havnt been able to remedy the problem. Tomorrow I cant even drive the car because its disgusting to see the gas gauge move so fast.

.so what do you guys think:
. Keep in mind it reved up fine before the gear advancement.
.was 20degrees retarded once I advanced the cam sproket one tooth.
.Then I corrected the timing to 10Btdc.

whats next?

Got 70 MPG?

Put it back to where you had it, if it drove fine then, then don't worry about it.

By advancing did you adjust the cam gear clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Your "low" bottom end, may just be...it's a geo.

If you advanced it 1 tooth "advance" and it was now 20* ATDC you actually "retarded" it. And, your timing was set at 2* ATDC when you had it originally...which causes no low end and good/normal top end.

forget all that...

set the timing mark on the bottom to the 0 on the timing thing. Set the top one to the mark on the pulley. Start the car. Set timing to 8-14BTDC.

See what that does. Last thing, compression test numbers?

Yes, that was me because "runs good at high R's but down low I have a little bog problem" and "So I advanced the timing a little to fix the bog to get out of my driveway, drives better but still shitty down low, and no pinging so thats good." directly after a rebuild is usually a sign of the timing belt being one tooth off. In this post: First Start Went Well.

Sorry, my apologies if that was incorrect. In the last month I was not able to get back to your original thread with more opinion and suggestions.

Mine did the exact same thing after upgrading the cam. The change was noticeable after the test drive and I spent another 45 minutes changing it back.

For the reasons you describe I installed a tachometer. The Geo will hit max torque at 3,200 rpm and max HP at 5,600 rpm according to the Chilton manual. The up-shift light is around 3,200 as this is an economy car and short shifting (or something like it) will save gas. Not even my Geo is fast off the line, sorry.
