Got 70 MPG?

I rigged up an intake similar to what my other Geo has on it. No more buying odd ball sized air filters, this one is cleanable and will last the life of the car.

The silencer that I got in the mail had a 1.75" opening on it, I went to O'Reillys and grabbed a few smaller diameter cuts of pipe until I was able to slide and press them all together so they would tighly fit inside of the silencer. My silencer now shrinks down to 1.375" on the inside. I haven't driven it on the parkway yet as I'm on vacation all week, but the car doesn't lose as much speed going up the hill by my house now. It also takes off and accelerates under light throttle faster now as well.

Impossible. There is just no way. Free flowing is better.

Maybe for turbo cars and power builds, but I'm going in the exact oposite direction with my two Geos. I would be happy with 35 horsepower, as long as I had 55 lbs of torque at 2500 RPMs ;)

True, but I'll have to settle for what I've got. :)

Two-Face is driving nicely with the further restricted exhaust silencer. Not losing as much speed going up the hills now and I don't have to gas it as much to accelerate.

So torque is a good thing? :P

It is when you don't have much to start with! :lol
Horsepower doesn't mean squat, it's the torque that you need to accelerate and maintain speed. Peak torque on this motor doesn't occur until over 3000RPMs on a stock motor, which is too high of a speed for me when I drive. So by further restricting the exhaust, the torque peaks out at a lower RPM, and I usually drive the car at a speed that puts my RPMs around 2500.

It's the same concept as building a header with smaller primaries, but much easier to tune with since the silencer is removable and I can change the pipe diameter around until I find the size that works best for me.

I drove Two-Face down to the lowest point I've ever had a Metro to yesterday.

I put 554.5 miles on the tank, topped off with 10.221 gallons, so that got me 54.25MPG, and it only cost me $33.72 to fill up at $3.299/gallon.

Mileage is down from the first tank I did, but the first tank was strictly back and forth from work and home, which is what I do in the Red Metro. This tank I just finished was mixed city/highway driving, which I never do on the red metro.

Very good mileage for a GEN3 car. You had a gallon left, why the panic? B-) :-/ :P

Because I kept running out of gas on the hills. I don't live in a flat terrain area :lol

Yah, I have stopped trying to use all 10.6 gallons myself cause mine stalls out on a round switch between 2 highways on a left handed exit with just enough speed to coast to the shoulder on the left side :smackface so I fill at 9 gallons most times. Only takes one or two of those experiences to figure out pushing it is only fun one or two times :lol

:smackface had that almost happen to me...i felt my car shudder on a roundabout...said uh oh and slowed down almost to a crawl and some gas came back...thought id have to push my car too but thankfully i did not...i was well below the "e" when that happened... :-/ never letting it get that low again...this happened shortly after buying the car too...

And when you fill up at the gas station someone may get jealous that you only took 7-8 gallons. Nobody does that.! :lol
When I get gas I always see 20-35 gallon purchases and lots of money being spent. :shake

I think I've got the Ultragauge dialed in now. I did my first fill-up on Two-Face since calibrating my distance on the gauge. It was off by 4 MPG, it said 60.4 when I actually got 56.44, but I did mess around with the injector cut-off function during the trip and it did get stuck into thinking the injector was off while I was driving it for a bit. After calibrating the factors on that function, it would still do it every now and then, so I turned it off and said f*ck it.

It should be good to go now :D
