You need some business or personal cards with your phone number on them...you have to look serious, so get some cards. Write on the back of 20 or 30 of them: "Is this Geo for sale? If so, please call me anytime" Put these on the dashboard of your regular driver. EVERYTIME you see a Geo parked somewhere, stop and slip one of the cards under a wiper blade. No matter what condition it is in...some people call and you go out and find out they have another one or know someone...you are looking for the Pot-Of-Gold remember? Start taking different routes to wherever you normally go. Try to canvas your entire town and surrounding areas. Keep a sharp eye out. I got a lot of calls and went out and looked at every one...you are looking for "The Deal" and it will come. My most expensive one was $300. Some of the calls resulted in overpriced or 4 cylinder offerings. But I went out and looked anyway. Later I got calls from people offering me cars FREE...but I had enough. My neighbor saw an ad in the Nickel Paper for 3 FREE Geos and went out and snatched them all. Another $50 one came by and he got it just for the good tires...it was a mess. I looked at a couple of FREE ones also but they were really stripped of everything good. I did this for a month and wound up with 4 Geos for a total expenditure of $1050... One of them had a bad head ($20 used) which I overhauled, changed out the timing belt, full tune up and presto! I had a practically new engine. I tuned up the rest of the car, tires, etc. and for about $1200 I had a practically new car in perfect condition. I performed triage, using two cars for parts and re-building the two best ones. That was almost three years ago and other than a thermostat, I have had no trouble with either of them. They get simply fantastic mileage. The toughest repair at first was front wheel bearings. The highest expense was getting the frame straightened on my 4 door...the woman had hit something underneath that DIDN'T MOVE! That was $298 including a used steering rack (Sticky rack) They had their job cut out for them they said...but they were good mechanics. I eventually traded off the other two parts cars to a neighbor who paid by watering my lawn for me all summer when I was out-of-state. Towing a used Geo home is about the easiest tow I have ever performed...they have two towing brackets vertically mounted in front....... a bolt and nylon lock/jam nut with large washers, any old adjustable small tow bar and you are ready to go. Stop after two or three miles and check everything again. Edited by owlafaye, Oct 7 2011, 02:43 PM.

Great plan of action, owlafaye.I was thinking about this on my way home. I was mulling over Stiffchezze's story of how his wife said "WOW, that looks so nice! And smells good too! I'm VERY impressed!" in The Story of Rudolph. I got my Geo form a mechanic who was going to junk it. Installed a JDM, $525, eBay, pressure tested engine. Cleaned it really well and started making some mods. Thing being it is so cute, economical and fun that when my wife saw a '96 parked in a snow bank and for sale she had to have it.

The wife likes to take the Metro to the grocery store. That’s about it. She doesn't mind being seen in it, but Birmingham traffic on the interstate is not a whole lot of fun. I love construction! She has not expressed interest in owning one, but she did say she kinda liked the way the Verts look. Baby steps. Awesome idea owlafaye! I've found that EVERYONE who owns a Metro wants to talk about it. Either to brag, complain, or offer it for sale. Just gotta get in the door!
