seems to me there was a topic started a while ago that sounded exactly like this story. it ended up badly for the guy doing the good deed.

let him buy a geo and help him rebuild it. or sell him yours and get another one. if you love your geo don't get guilted into giving him your car. he's your friend but you are in no way indebted to him ( i mean unless you actually are) you don't owe him your car, that's an awful big thing to give.

teach him to fix up geos or do like mjspiess said. like the old saying goes, you can give a man a fish and feed him for a day or you can teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime.

I like snowfish's point that if he can't turn a wrench and Geo is not for him.

Sacrifice is one thing - giving up something for the sake of something else. But as pointed out will it be appreciated as much as you appreciate the car. Then there is a question of your level of detachment. How attached to the car are you? And that's OK because it is your transportation, something you worked hard for and love. Also, be patient and see if he respects your patience.

I don't see it as a true gift if "he always like Geo Metros' and has express a strong interest in mine." That interest bothers me unless it's causal or "happy for you" interest or just a love of Metros',

"Co-worker?" So he has a job... and he spends his money on? It just feels funny. :hmm

I like the idea of getting something you can fix up or help him fix up or maybe helping with matching funds but not giving it away out of a sense of friendship loyalty. Just say, 'this is a keeper' and see if he is still a friend.

Never risk anything you aren't willing to give up.

Nothing I can add to what has already been said above, nothing is appreciated more than something that is earned.

Well, my Geo now have a new owner and home. The person mentioned previously is the new owner.

He managed to have saved enough and wanted a Metro (for price, economy and simplicity)
he said he has been looking around and haven't see a decent metro that's worth the asking price.
After making me an offer that was good, I separate with my Geo....

....and a Merry Christmas to him.

I know he will take good care of it as much as I did. (There’s a mechanic in the family)
I also mentioned the forum to him so the car may show up here someday.
He now has a very good Geo and I have some extra cash - A happy ending. :cheers

I will still hang around here occasionally - who knows maybe there's another Metro in my near future. ^o)

I just want to thank you all for an enjoyable and educational sojourn and wish GMF all the best.

Have a Merry Christmas Everyone.

Peace - I'm out!

On a side not-this is someone I have seen in the past at the bus stop in the freezing cold and rain.

UPDATES!!!

The new owner said he is thrilled.....
He said he is well satisfied with the Geo and he is happy with the buy.

He had a long trip Christmas eve, and that the experience was great.
Reportedly averages 52mpg.
..Go Geo!

No luck so far finding another one at least half way decent.... but.... there's something else.
