Today I went and saw a friend in Jay, OK. He is getting out of the metro business and wants to unload his supply of 4 convertibles, one 2dr hatch, a shed full of parts, and lots of hoods, doors, bumpers, tires, a couple of exhausts, and other things. The cars need some work to get them running, but the good news is they are southern cars with no rust. Maybe some bumps and scratches but they are very good.

The shed was a marvel of parts. The pictures should speak for themselves. A headliner, a 4cyl head, 3 oem radios, and tons of things in boxes clearly marked. He just wants to sell it all to one person. He will not break it into smaller sales because he doesn't want the hastle of running to the post office to send off parts everyday. Plus he is not computer savvy doen't want the headache of keeping up with individual orders.

He also has a cabinet that was wrapped up and he said it contained A/C and heater parts. There is stuff that I didn't remember so I left them out. Like a sweet dark aqua green 98 2dr 3cyl he will sell for $2300. No rust and looks like new. Great buy. Also a yellow convertible that he wants to sell. These two cars are NOT part of the $3500 car and parts price. They are stand alone cars.

The fellows name is Leon Cochran. Jay, Oklahoma. 918-801-2484 He is a very nice gentle man who knows his stuff about metros, especially convertibles. He loves the metros and gets parts from all over eastern Oklahoma.

So if you have $3500 you can get a lot of cars and parts. BTW, I am not making a dime on this deal. I offered to throw this up to the GMF members to help him sell his collection more quickly. The only thing I get out of this is knowing that these cars will not go to the crushers and the parts will not end up in a landfill.

Out of curiosity, why's he getting out of the Metro business?

He's just too old to be climbing under the cars to perform surgery. Lots of will power, but the body says no-go.

So, the yellow convertible shown above is NOT part of the $3500 deal? If not, how much is he asking for it?

I'd be willing to pitch into the kitty if anyone else wants in. I'd pitch in about $1000 for the yellow convertible, the two door hatch, and some misc. parts. (I would have to go see what's available before deciding on what parts I'll need, but I'd like at least a couple spare seats.)

EDIT: Does your friend in OK have a profile here on the forum?

Rustman, when I talked to him, he did not want to split it up. All or nothing. I included his name and number in my original post. If you are interested then call him. He is very nice and will not bite your head off.

If members want to pony up a pile of cash to purchase his stash, be forewarned:

You had better have your ducks in a row before you start on this endeavour. Don't screw around and try to haggle when you get there. He will tell you to pack up your marbles and go home. His terms are firm. All for $3500 or just don't even waste his time. If you can get a few members to throw cash into the kitty, fine. Make darn sure you have transportation in place on purchase date so all the metro can be hauled off and the parts can be moved off premises that same day. He doesn't want to sell individual parts, cars or break his stash into different piles for your convenience.

i think what he's saying is he wants to pool the money together with other people so they can buy the whole lot for 3500 and then divide it up among themselves later.

Helter, yes, I agree with what you are saying. I just want folks to understand that the "buy in" and transportation needs to be in place before the journey can begin.

Good luck to anyone who wants to throw your cash into the pot.

Helter had the right idea. What I'd like to do is organize a few members that would want to divide this up. We would all meet Dayle's friend on the same day, pick what we wanted, hand over the combined amount of $3500 to the man, and have everything gone in one day when we leave.

I'm not sure if this method would be acceptable to your friend, but as far as I can see it would meet your friend's terms that everything be gone all at once.
(Also, I don't have the physical resources to pick everything up in one day and haul it off. To haul away 5 cars and all those parts, I'd need a Mack truck (or Peterbuilt, or Kenwood, or whatever) and a car carrier to haul it all, and I just don't have that. All I have is a 1/2 ton pickup and a light snowmobile trailer. I can rent out a car dolly if I need to, but that's about as far as my resources go.
