Driving to work the other day and my engine died and wouldnt start, so walked to work, punched in, grabbed buddy's car and went to check mine out, 1st thing i noticed is oil underneath, popped the hood and saw oil on top of intake and all over the exhaust, i tried starting it again and it started right up, valves were ticking, so filled with oil and got it to work and drove it home with no more problems, would this be my pcv valve (I hope!) or a broken ring? and why did it die? it is a 94 metro 1l 5 speed with 155k

couple other questions too since i am here, the shifter rattles in 5th gear?? is their an adjustment? just bought this car about a month ago and haven't changed tranny fluid, maybe that'll help?

also will a 1l metro motor bolt up to a prizm tranny?

I would like to put 13 inch tires on it, I know I saw a list of tires that would fit, but too lazy to look, can anyone help, thanks

Welcome to your new forum, jason74! :coffee

Oil in the Throttle Body could kill the engine. Yes, the PCV did this to me, clogged, clogged the "Y" tube and blew out the cam seal. You might try unbolting the top of the timing belt cover, peal it back a little and see if you can spot the seal resting behind the cam gear.

At 155,000 miles it is time to start thinking about a rebuild unless you have good compression - How To Compression Test. but high compression on an old engine might be carbon buildup on the pistons. :-/

You can either get a mechanic's stethoscope or hold a screwdriver handle end to your ear while touching metal parts with the tip to detect the exact location of the ticking.

Change the tranny fluid to a Synchromesh. Pricey but worth it. A tune-up would be in order. NGK plugs, cap, fluids, maybe a fuel filter. Plug wires from http://www.robietherobot.com/metro3cylWires

Hope that helps.

found the problem, it was the pickup coil.. compression is good 180pounds in all 3 cylinders, still don't know why it lost oil, but has been running good for 2 weeks now

Nope, Prism is a Toyota product, Metro was made by Suzuki.

You should still try to find the oil problem before it gets worse.

I agree, trust me i've looked, don't know why it lost all the oil, hasn't happened again, I do have a front seal leaking, but that was not where 3.5 quarts went, struts are bad also, and the gear shifter rattles in 5th gear?? putting off spending more money on this car in hopes of finding another one and using this one for parts, they don't come up for sale very often, and when they do, there gone quick

Car Nut, mine looks just like the 94 you have, don't think its an xfi though, sure is a lot of wind noise going down the road

Pull the coil wire off the dist. Hold the wire, have someone try and crank it. Do you jump? If no, then no spark from the coil, if yes, then the coil is sparking.

first thing i did, i didn't jump, no spark, but its fixed now, until next time, it was a fuse under the hood, wierd tho cuz the fuse was good, ran current through it and it read 12 volts, so i dunno, this car has gremlins
