This is probably in the wrong forum, but it doesn't appear I can move or delete it and I don't want to double post it. I have a 1994 Geo Metro XFI. Check engine light is on. I put fuse in and it was code 51. Saw this useful thread: http://geometroforum.com/topic/678529/1/ And so see some parts that might be the culprit. The challenge is: is there somewhere I can go to find replacement parts? My EGR valve has the number: K51547 77 on it, but I can't find anything like that anywhere. I called AutoZone and they couldn't help. They had an EGR Valve, but couldn't tell if it was the right part, and they had nothing about a transducer or solenoid. Welcome to your new forum, taotree! This is a good place to start. You likely do not need an EGR, yet. Are you sure it is the EGR? For the most part it can be removed and cleaned with spray carb cleaner and a new gasket is under $5 from most any parts store, even $1.59 at my local NAPA. If you depress the diaphragm the engine should stall. If you remove the EGR and start the engine you should feel hot exhaust out the left port and vacuum on the right. The hoses can be replaced or cleaned. There should be a sticker on your hood that tell you the names and you can follow the hoses to find the parts. One place you can look is at Diagrams 92-94, http://www.rockauto.com and I like http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/. Hope that helps. |

None Nine times out of ten, the EGR ports and passages through the exhaust manifold, head, and especially the intake manifold are clogged up with soot. Here's a good picture of where the problem is, taken from this thread: http://geometroforum.com/topic/678529/1/

Parts required Wrench (10mm ??) to remove the EGR (careful and you can reuse the gasket) 2 cans Brake Cleaner 1 small screwdriver (to whittle away the carbon) a rag to clean your hands when your done. clean the passages that woodie has in that picture too. extra tool if they are particularly bad is some braided steel cable with an end frayed and your cordless drill. Think "drain snake" for your EGR :-) clean it up till its nice and shiny make sure the diaphragm moves (push on it) to test if your EGR mechanically functions start the car and PUSH the diaphragm the car should stutter as if it wants to die. when you get it all together its going to be a *@#$#$ to get started and run really rough (its choking on that carbon and all that brake cleaner) just keep cranking it and lightly gassing the pedal it will start up and clear out in a few seconds. Code 51 will be gone. |
