Only upon start up, I get a tiny bit or white smoke lasting only a second or less. Is this my valve stem seals? It's not spark plug tube seals, I just did those. |

Oh, and I just seafoamed it a couple days ago. It was extremely dirty, I was hoping maybe it wasn't all clean but I knocked enough crap loose that it would cause this and another can might fix it. Is this just wishful thinking. There's no measurable loss of oil. |

If its a 4cylinder they seem to have that problem as long as oil use is minimal i try to ignore it . you're sure its not just condensation in the exhaust system on cold start up ? Edited by jellybean, Nov 3 2011, 02:27 PM.

The 4 cylinders are known to do this. Not a big deal. |

valve stem seals should leak at cold start when it has sat for several hours, mine makes a big ball of smoke in the morning and I leave the windows up until I back out through it. When its only sat for a short amount of time then no smoke at all. I also have oily dirt more than normal(not excessive) on the back bumper so its burning oil all the time just not in quantity. Using/burning 1 qt in 3000 mile with the smoke and an external leak that needs found/fixed. Figure that I will run it until engine overhaul or the usage goes way up. Mine is 4cly with 135K miles and never had the engine touched. Will do a compression test in January when I study engine performance in school and figure any action then. |

Thanks guys. If its common, I won't worry about it. I plan on doing my timing belt at around 100k, I'll probably just yank the head and replace everything when I do that. But I got 25k to go so I'll ignore it til then. Thanks again

I have the same problem with my 2001 4 cyl. Smoke last for about 2 seconds when I first start it up, but no loss of oil or coolant. Runs great |

Residual seafoam in the cat maybe and my Yukon has done it since day one. Doesn't use oil 180,000+ on the clock. |
