Im new to the Metro family. I have an 04 GTO thats in storage so i picked up my 97 <etro Lsi 1.3l for my winter/DD I only have had it for 4 days and already had to replace the front axles. After install it started leaking fuel at one of the carburetor lines. Fixwd that and drove home. Next day i started it and the belt was screaming(no biggie) I headed down the road and it started sputtering and thats when the CEL came on. it drives fine now at normal throttle but when i tried to go WOT it didnt want to move and it was wanting to die? My only guess would be the fuel pump or filter. I have never owned a carburated car so this is all ne to me. Thanks for any help PS i am going to get the Code that it is throwing tomorrow. Where is the plug in for the scan tool? |

The car is actually throttle body. A good place to start is all the battery, alternator, and ground connections. The plug in for the DLC is right under the driver's side dash. Get that code and post it here. |

For starters, it is not carburated. These have TBI (Throttle Body Injection). I can't help you with the location of scan tool portbecause my cars are OBDI and yours is OBDII. But get the code and we can help. Someone should be along to tell you the location.

Thanks for the help guys. Not sure why i thought it had a carb.....maybe it was the intake filter and how it sits on the top of the motor. I am used to V8s. I will get the code tomorrow and post it. The car only has 92,000 miles on it. it is leaking oil at the oil pan. I ordered a new gasket so i hope that will fix the leak. there is also a gas leak that the weld on the gas tank. i have tried to use gas tank repair epoxy and it is still leaking. it is only an 8 gallon tank so i cant imagine a new tank being very expensive? |

Do not use an oil pan gasket on this engine because it will effect the crank sensor gap. Use RTV silicone only! |

Thanks. I just read your "pinned" post about gaskets. so if the oil pan is laeaking i should 1. drain oil 2. remove bolts from the oil pan' 3. clean the surfaces 4. apply new (black) RTV 5. Bolt pan back up 6. add oil (after RTV dries |

You got it. Welcome to your new forum, coleman! It may be the PCV valve that has clogged and it's "Y" tube. If that happens the valve cover develops pressure and blows out the cam seal which is above the oil pan. And your crank seal is also above the oil pan. The gas tank is actually 10.5 gallons and 11 if you top off. Your gas gauge is lying to you. Well, seriously it's a common issue everyone has but you can take it personally. I do. Mine takes 7-7.5 when it reaches the red bar. But I have never run out of gas. And yes, I was thrilled to find out it was fuel injected. All be it one little injector. My van sits in the driveway with a nice 350 Chevy engine in it.

measure front 02 sensor signal at TOD time of death front 02 sensor signal wire is black as is rear 02 sensor signal wire use your DVOM set on DC Volts black lead on battery negative , red lead on 02 sensor signal if low at TOD, around 150mv or less , system is lean and starving for fuel if high at TOD, around 850mv or more , system is misfiring and has ignition problem or the cat is clogged or the cat is clogged because of the ignition problem . this is assuming there is no DTC if there is a DTC , chase that too , depending on what it is , if DTC is for rich or lean condition , revert to what is above |

By design fuel injectors are deactivated at any engine speed above 7000 rpms. It is to keep you from blowing up your engine. Sounds like you never made it to 7000 rpms but if you did, it should have cut out your injectors. |

So replace the upstream O2 sensor. I also have an exhaust leak. not sure of the location just yet but im guessing that didnt help. This is an awesome forum to be a part of. some forms that ii have been on only have a bunch of A-holes who only makee fun of others because they dont know certain things. I am glad that this board is not like this. Thanks for all the help. I will get the upstream O2 sensor and report back. Edited by coleman, Nov 15 2011, 02:15 PM.
