Do you think timing would be the case when it seems to clear up when warmed up? BTW - I did a full adjustment on the timimg twisting the distributor to both extremes and it didn't go away. Maybe the timing belt is off a tooth? Would a loose pulley, or sprocket make this sound? |

Its possible, when my car was cold it ran like shit. Once it was warm the crank expanded a little it would hold the pulley better and the timing would stay set, but once it went cold all the problems showed back up. Maybe, try turning the belt and see if all the marks line up properly. It could, like I said earlier. When mine first started coming loose the car ran normal but had a really bad knocking sound that sounded like a spun rod bearing. After I found out what was wrong and fixed the pulley every timing issue I had and every odd knocking sound I heard all vanished and the engine is now running better than it has in a very long time. Since it only takes like 10 min to jack up the side of the car and slip under with a torque wrench to find out there's no sense in chancing your tail. Just check it out, worst thing that can happen is that't not the problem and you have to keep looking, but at least then you know whats not the problem lol Edited by compjake, Dec 2 2011, 02:01 AM.

Crank bolt was tight. I still have the bogging down between 2500-3000 RPM when cold though. :-( |
