Grr

I am less interested in "high performance" so much as "long lasting and durable"

ie I want 100k from them like I got in the jeep :-)

blew the timing belt tonight. cruising home on I295N and suddenly no power. audibly could not tell engine was not running till I saw check engine and throttle gave nothing.

when I tried a restart the engine spun WAY too fast. first thought was timing belt.

coast about 1.5 miles to the side of the road shine a light through oil fill sure enough no cam spin when cranked. Dammit. AAA home.

of course my god damned timing belt is sitting at UPS in Horsham PA and they won't let me have it till its "scheduled" delivery date of the 28th. sons of #$&)&*@#$

that seller is getting a neutral feeback for using god damned 9 day UPS shipping. cheap SOB bet he only saved $2 too.

I offered to pay UPS the difference to let me come get it UPS said no have to wait till 28th.

so I might have to go buy a timing belt tomorrow or just wait till the parts come in. Depends on how cheap it is when I call AA or SJA tomorrow.

how hard is it to JUST pop a new timing belt on? (would be nice to have a spare anyway in the car)

what is the best tutorial on here for doing this?

The 30K maintenance schedule is because the spark plug electrodes wear each time the plug sparks. Time is a factor on rubber parts and oil (low mileage long time means more opportunity for condensation in the oil) but I don't see how that would affect plugs as the determining factor is # of spark events. On the coil on plug 16V engines you can obviously see that two of them wear the center electrode and the other two wear the ground strap electrode. I take mine out at 30K, clean and anti-seize, and rotate them into the other holes to spread the wear. Platinum or Iridium plugs last much longer, but if you're using regular plugs, 100K is too long.

Wires I think would be the opposite, time is more damaging than mileage. Doubt very much if you would see any performance advantage from trick wires, but they'll probably last longer and they look way cool.

I always carry a spare timing belt and alternator belt, even a used one is nice in an emergency. Also carry the tools needed to replace them. :smackface

New timing belt requires removing the alt belt, water pump pulley, crank pulley and timing belt cover. I go through the passenger wheel well for the crank pulley.

Here's a link to Timing Belt Replace and Repair that I wrote up.
