Have a 1994 geo metro 1.0 liter engine, Brand new engine long black. The check engine light has always been on and I had hoped it would be off once I installed this new engine. The old one had bad rings and valves. I have had it in the shop for diognostic and showing EGR issues. I have removed egr valve and squirted 3 cans of carb cleaner through it to remove the black suet. Reinstalled with new gasket and still light comes back on after a few minutes from running again. have disconnected battery numerous times. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? bradyis@att.net

An easy way to check your intake to see if it is clogged is while you have the egr valve off, take a rubber hose and hold it up tight to both holes where the egr valve mounts to the intake and see if you can blow thru both holes. Whether on the engine or off like mine, you should be able to blow thru them. Mine was clogged completely.

If I remember correctly, the passage taps off from the exhaust manifold. It can get clogged in that area too. If the egr system is working correctly, when you push in the egr diaphram by hand it should almost kill the motor.
