I think I had coolant in oil, and it is 40 degrees out side very cold. that makes it hard for me to determined if it's coolant. I am planing to go and get the block tester kit from auto zone.

if I have to get new head gasket do you guys know if I have to resurface my head?

thanks guys.

The best way to go about it would be to pull the head, have it measured for flatness and milled if needed. If you remove the head you will have to get a new head gasket - they are not reusable.

In practice many folks will replace the exhaust valves with stainless steel ones, lap all the valves, rebuild the lifters, check the head for flatness with a metal ruler (assuming the car hasn't been overheated and was running decently this seems to work ok) reassemble and reinstall.

It really comes down to your tolerance for risk. If you want the lowest possible chance that you will have to redo the job then send the head to the machine shop and have it checked/milled. If you are willing to accept a bit more risk, then check it yourself, rebuild it and go. Good Luck!

If the head is coming off, at least replace exhaust valves. I never had to resurface a head yet.

I use the Felpro head gasket sets. I bought regular valves from Napa or you can get stainless valves from 3Tech link on main page.
