OK. I've ordered a headlight and I'm picking up the universal coolant reservoir today. Now my main concern is the transmission. REALLY hope no permanent damage was done because I'm pretty sure my bands were already worn. But the transmission has never slipped other than the night of the accident and once it stopped accelerating and went into neutral mode; I pulled over. So I'm hoping it didn't get to the point of doing permanent damage. My transmission fluid is reddish-brown (mostly brown). I've been told I shouldn't flush it if the bands are worn because it might kill my transmission completely. Any suggestions?? What is the best/easiest way to know if permanent damage was done without driving it (haven't got the radiator replaced yet)?? |

So you've been told it "might " kill the transmission. And you may have damaged it in the accident. Or the option is replace it. I don't have a test for an automatic transmission but if the choice is replace or change oil and replace later I'd go with change oil and take my chances. Take a look at the link in this thread and see if it helps you... http://geometroforum.com/topic/2958682/1/ |

the advice is not to FLUSH the tranny (and that is good advice) but it does not mean you can't change the fluid. Drain and refill. thats all. just don't use one of those pressure flush machines. they CAN damage old trannies. |
