Heaven forbid you have to wipe 1/32" of an inch of snow off your car.
aahhhahahaha....no shit. man that winter looks brutal. You would be crazy not to have remote start for those winters. lol

Power windows! Those cranks are dreadful. Better quality door handles too (maybe carbon fiber), a 6 speed transmission if that's even possible! :deal

As stupid as this might seem:

I'm actually trying to do that of sorts with mine. I'm planning on buying a LOT of sound deadening/insulation to do the whole interior. I'd also like to try to find a set of GTi seats and have them recovered with grey leather. I'd also like to install power windows and get a VERY nice sound system together.

I'm doing ALL of that right now ...

Powered doors are sourced and paid for

Remote start system sourced and ordered

Sound system sitting in my living room

GTi seats sourced and ordered

New Years will be GREAT!!! :drool :drool

hmmm maybe yours is different but I idled my metro for over 30 minutes once before I "gave up" the temp gauge never budged from dead cold.

the engine just could not generate and or KEEP enough btu's faster than the environment could sap them away.

gonna try sealing up the engine bay a little this winter if time allows.

Haven't viewed the last page yet, but are you sure your thermostat was working when that happened? If it got stuck in the open position (from the cold, or whatever) it probably wouldn't warm up no matter what you did. That happened to my 96, only in reverse. It got stuck in the closed position and the engine started overheating all the time. Trouble was that the parts warehouse I tried getting a replacement from had a different sized thermostat that wouldn't physically fit, and they tried telling me that it was OEM, and they couldn't get me the right one. So now I have to drive around without a thermostat in it, which isn't too bad in the summer, but now in the winter the engine cools right down to C as soon as I start getting up to speed.

My preferences:
Keep the crank windows... one less motor to go bad (and I've seen a lot of them fail, and it ain't pretty. ... sorry for my hick language, lol.)
No air bags! (I can't stand the way my steering wheel looks like it's got a balloon inside of it, and if it ever goes off, I hate to think of the bill to get it put back together. My seat belt is good enough for me, thank you.)
Better sound system with fog machine, neons and strobe lights (party-mobile!)
3 cyl engine with less than 5,000 miles on it. (I can CNC program, just need materials and a good mill... I'm in school learning CNC right now) :deal
Retractable headlights on a pneumatic system (not vaccum)
Cruise Control on steering wheel, not on instrument panel
pushbuttons for headlights and wipers
Speaking of wipers, have ones that actually have an INT setting so that I don't wear them out as fast, and have a rear wiper.
Speaking of rear, have rear defrost wires (ones that won't break easily) in the hatch
Speaking of the hatch... (is the "speaking of" getting old?) Have a button up front to release so that I don't have to stick my finger in the mechanism to release it from the inside... maybe a hole drilled in that little pin connected on a wire?... :hmm
I much prefer the manual steering over power steering. One less thing that can leak, break, crack, or just not work when the engine's dead. Have you ever tried to move a dead vehicle that has power steering? My dad's 78 F-250 is like that. We've pop-started that old *ahem* more times than I care to remember. And when it's dead, it's a real pain in the *ahem* to get that wheel to turn at all. And that's probably how the steering got so loose...
6, or 7, or 8, or more speed manual transmission, for if I ever go to Germany. (Yeah right, as if they would ever allow my Metro on the Autobahn... lol) But seriously, a 6th gear would be nice, so that my car can handle the Interstate highways better without flushing my mpgs...

I don't really like the idea of remote start or remote entry. All it takes is the right code on the right frequency, and some thief can merrily drive away with your car, while you're left trying to find a ride at the truckstop... Plus, it's just another thing that can get messed up and cause trouble.
Speaking of trouble, can you imagine what would happen if a vehicle lost power that has a drive-by-wire system equipped? Think about it for a moment. A drive-by-wire car basically has a video game system controlling the steering. If that car lost power, let's just say, from an EMP burst, the driver wouldn't be able to steer his car to safety. So much for that idea... :smackface

Let me think... what else would I want... Ok, how about a self-cleaning system? Imagine you just took your family to Mc Donald's, and your kids spill their drinks on the carpet. No problem! just plug your car into any 110V AC outlet, and the Metro's cleaning system goes to work. Small vacuum cleaners on robotic arms come out from under the seats and spray Resolve carpet cleaner on the fabric, removing any spilt drinks from the floor. I don't know, but maybe they can shine your shoes as well... lol.

...it's still early here... :coffee

Good bye

My "new" Esteem seats make my car feel much more luxurious. I installed studded tires today so the road noise will go way up.

Grr

Well I can not say for 100% certainty it was not a stuck thermo but once I "drove" the car it warmed up almost exactly in 1.2 miles like it always does.

I would assume it would "NOT" have done that if the thermo was stuck open.

also in seriously cold weather without a rad block the car will "COOL DOWN" if I stop and idle for too long.

It could be stuck a little open (not closing all the way) or have a cracked\leaking inner or outer gasket.
