I'm getting ready to change the oil in my 90 metro. It has synthetic oil in it.
When I change it, can I run a cup of diesel in the oil shortly like you can with conventional oils? Does it cause any damage?

That will help clean out some of the sludge. I prefer dumping Seafoam into the oil and running it 500 miles before draining it.

Do you have sludge? If not don't bother. I use a quart of atf for a few hundred miles to clean things out.

I wouldn't do that unless you plan on rebuilding the engine. If you're running synthetic oil, then there's no need to flush the engine.

Thanks for the replies. I am dealing with some noisy lifters, and before I tear into it and replace them I just want to make sure I can't postpone it a bit by running some sort of cleaner thru the engine first.
I know, it's probably just wishful thinking!

The cleaner most of us run through our engines is called "oil" :)

I wouldn't add anything to it, just change it regularly.
