2001 CHEVY METRO - 1.3 - 16V SOHC

I brought the cylinder head to the machine shop and the guy said the valve guides on this engine usually never go bad and don't need to be replaced, but he said he'll check and if need he'll change, also he said my engine don't need new head bolts.

Is he right or wrong?

You should always replace the headbolts, some have gotten away without doing it. I would not recommend it.

When it comes time to put the head on, take the block and head (with your old head bolts) to the guy and tell him to torque them down for you. And if he snaps a bolt, it comes out of his pocket. ^o)

There are lots of things you "should" do, and using new head bolts should be one of those.

That said, I have reused my head bolts many times with no problems - knock on wood.

I think he's right, 16V headbolts are not TTY and can be reused. Mike from 3Tech is the who would know for sure, but I think I remember him saying this.

I believe they are.
It's the GT ones that aren't.
