Probably will not last long. Mine is showing the ribs through the belt now. I suspect that the chirp chirp chirp is a pretty good indicator that the bearings in the alternator are either sadly needing to be relubed or are on the way out. I am going to swap in the alternator from my vert (known good) and take some time to get the other one fixed up with new bearings. The bearings are cheap and even if the alternator fails later it is no huge loss. |

I start on some pretty cold mornings here and no sqealing.. so unless your belt were not tight to spec, it will squeal. Have you tried spraying some WB40 on the alternator bearing..? Or as was suggested before - remove belt and run the motor as a troubleshooting step. |
