New here, hi all. My sons 1.0 hesitates primarily when taking off from a downhill start. At approx 25 mph it picks up and runs fine. Checked TPS and searched for intermittent wiring under hood, can't cause any symptoms at will. We have rebuilt the engine and valves approx a year ago, timing is fine and EGR manifold port not clogged, EGR valve functional. (had burned valve and low compression prior to rebuild) Not certain if our issue is spark or fuel. The "tilt" issue -must- be a clue?? thanks for any help people. Edited to include, tank is full of gas at the moment, problem happens regardless of fuel level in tank..

Welcome to your new forum, cygnus58! So what kind of a tilt are we talking about? Central PA does have it's hills. Is this the morning start cold or every hill all the time? How is it after warm-up? Hesitates or tries to die? I'm in 1st until 15mph so is a shift involved to get to 25mph? Could try spraying the wires to see if there is errant spark: Other issue might be the EVAP canister.

Hey, thanks for the response. As time goes on, the problem happens with less tilt (couple degrees even) and occasionally hesitates from a level start. May be co-incidence but hasn't done it starting pointed uphill. Only happens from a 0mph start. Warm, hot or cold. Never while driving. It may shift into second or not, haven't noticed. Will try spraying the wires and checking them out in the dark for corona or spark. baffled to this point. |

I would pull the plugs and take a look at what they look like. I would put a fuel pressure gauge on it and check the fuel pressure. One more thing I would check, not likley to be a problem but would check is the catalytic converter. Sometimes when the catalyst breaks up it can clog up your exhaust as you describe by the car having a problem downhill. |
