hey all, well this morning something weird happened to my speedometer while on the freeway and still kinda is doing it now but now im kinda iffy if its reliable anymore ...ok i was speeding up to about 60-65 mph, and trying to pass someone and when i did, i looked down at my guages and it read 85 MPH!?! i know i wasnt going THAT fast ...but when i exited the freeway soon after, the needle went verrryyyyyyyyy slow back down...by the time i got to the light of the exit, it read 25 mph, and i was at a crawl literally... ![]() has anyone experienced this or is my needle broken or what? i mean if this is going to continue im going to have a heart attack, literally, if i dont know whats my actual speed and probably get pulled over if im going to fast...please help!!! |

I have a used speedo cable, pre-lubed for $12 shipped. Let me know if you want it. It worked just fine for me. |

ok but will i need to change it out soon? and i really dont want to mess w/ something im not familiar with... also im probably needing my fuel filter to be changed, noticed the mpg's are a bit low and i know the cold sometimes has something to do with it but im not driving around that much since im not currently working...mostly city driving like to do errands and such...

I'd probably take mjspiess up on his offer ($12 shipped). A new speedometer cable, from Rock Auto, is about $25.00 shipped. The hardest part, about changing it out, is the inner & outer firewall grommets. Those take a little finesse. Removing the cluster, wipers, & outer defrost cover is fairly basic. At least on my 93.Pretty sure the wacky speedo is wreaking havoc on the VSS. Poor ECU doesn't know what to do with the fuel trim. That, combined with the cooler temps & short hops, will definitely drop the mpg's. I don't think a partially plugged fuel filter would cause poor fuel economy. Still a good idea, to put in a new one, if it's been a while.
