uh im kinda new here and about cars in general so i don't know where to put this a couple months ago i bought a 97 geo metro automatic don't ask how much i paid for but i wish the taxes and dutys weren't there then i probably would of bought it in the states... so when i bought the the car the first thing i noticed the speedometer wasn't working lucky for me i didn't have to pay to have it fixed. getting replacement parts for my geo in costa rica is a bit rare i been looking for a driver side mirror for a while now but enough of that lets get to the point when ever i drive the car the mph gauge basically jumps from well doesn't really jump it just bounces up and down from 0 to 15 mph it looks kinda weird the cable had to be built from the look of it because the cable couldn't be found when they had to fix it before. so I'm in new york right now looking to buy anything i need to take with me and wouldn't mind trying to get the speedometer fixed while I'm at it any help with this would be nice i took a video with my iPhone it kinda shows whats going on with it ill post it if i have to. also is it a good thing to have 15 inch rims on a automatic i some times notice the car drops in gear when I'm going up hills and it just sounds like the car is forcing it self some times. if any one wants to know car cost me 1.800.000 in there local currency >.> |

Welcome to your new forum, fmlouder! We don't have a real automatic transmission thread but someone might jump in and help. Sounds like the cable is binding. I'd see if you can find a new cable or even a used cable from a junk yard listed in the phone book. Depending on how long you are in New York you might find one at a Suzuki Dealer or have it ordered. It is only a three speed transmission, if I'm correct, so it might be normal for it to drop a gear on hills. And yeah, the max one would probably to pay for any Geo in the states is $1,500-$2,000US in excellent shape but some people have paid twice that to get what they want. It depends on the buyer and seller to set the value, eh. |

Welcome to the forum, fmlouder ![]() You should be able to find a replacement mirror for ~$25 from a junkyard in NY. It does sound like the speedometer cable is binding. A speedometer cable on rockauto.com is ~$18 You might pick one up at a local NAPA before you head back. Good luck. ![]() |
