The first thing you should do is go here.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/optimus-v-rooting-roms-hacks/108282-how-simplified-root-recovery-custom-rom.html

The optimus V is a nice budget phone, but it comes with Android 2.2 so it's kinda outdated, follow the guide and you'll be running Android 2.3.7 like most of the newer $200-400 Android phones ;)

If you want a physical keyboard, check this out.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-v-accessories/113732-ebay-mini-bluetooth-keyboard.html

And if you need longer battery life you can replace the original 1500mah battery with a 3000mah
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-v-accessories/102674-3000-mah-battery.html
It does make it thicker, but it literally doubles the life between charges. I have one on my OV :)

Now, my favorite apps.

Mixzing Basic (mp3 player) SetCPU (to overclock the phones cpu. only works after root and custom rom install) Skyfire (web browser) GO! SMS (text and pic messaging) GO! Weather (beautiful weather app) Music Junk (download MP3's) Ringdroid (make your own ring tones) Barcode Scanner (kinda obvious lol) RealCalc (calculator) Bluetooth File Transfer (allows you to transfer files via Bluetooth) Gmote (use your phone as a keyboard and mouse on your computer wireless)

Lastly, even though LG and Virgin mobile and probably anyone else will tell you. These poor phones DO NOT support Adobe Flash, although this is a major flaw in my eyes there is a simple way around it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299783
Works great for most things but remember, its not supposed to work so don't be mad when things don't work just be glad most things do.

Hell yea thanks compjake. As for the older system its no biggie. I'm usually way behind the curve. I will check out those apps though. I really wish this had a real keyboard but I'm getting use to it

No problem :) The reason I bring it up is there are a few viruses that effect Android 2.2, 2.3 has been patched so those viruses don't work.
If you cant find one in the market do a google search, if you still cant let me know and I'll send it to ya :)
Check out one of those Bluetooth keyboards then, from what I've heard they are really nice looking and work well.

When your used to a physical keyboard its kinda hard, after a couple weeks of using it you will probably get used to it.

Now that I don't have a keyboard on mine, I only have 9 buttons that can wear out lol
Power, vol up, vol down, both cam buttons and the 4 front buttons. I see it as increased reliability since I've had a few QWERTY keyboards wear out in various phones

Yeah, get the app "Wireless Tether" I have no idea if it will work without root access, just try it and if it don't work you'll have to root your phone.
