I agree. I'd rather listen to the engineers who designed the damned car than some bureaucrat or activist who is trying to be Captain Planet.

I put Mobile 1 full syn in the GEO three years ago and change it every 6000, Moble One in Astro change every 7500 miles. Change oil in the Chevy Silverado 3500 Duromax when the dash lite tells me to, about every 14 months. |

I have run synthetic in my 1999 Nissan Quest since it had 40k miles. It now is close to 300k with no major problems to date. I change the oil between 10k and 20k whether it needs it or not. |

2,500 mile oil and filter changes with Castrol 5W-30 SLX Professional (VW 504.00/507.00) and a Purolator Pure One PL20195 filter for me. At 33,000 miles, the inside of the engine is as clean as the day it went together. The oil changes are not cheap. It's easier for me to change the oil and filter than it is to repair the engine. Check under my oil cap with a flashlight next year at Geopalooza. I should have over 50,000 miles on this engine by then. I also use .5 ml Chevron Techron per gallon of fuel on a regular basis, and a 10 ounce dose every 3,000 miles. E30 is my fuel of choice. I still get 46 MPH, and less carbon in the engine. |

E30 is 30% ethanol. I find it amazing that he gets 46mpg with E30. in fact I am blown away it even runs. Mine chokes and pukes on E16 (I measured it they screwed up and made the batch E16 instead of E10) I wonder what is different with your engine than mine .... |

Standard G10 engine. Standard cam. No EGR. Regular NKG spark plugs. Camshaft gear set on the 2 degree advance setting. As a matter of fact, I started using copious amounts of ethanol a few weeks ago. I was mixing E85 with E10 to get the "maximum" E content and still run without the CEL coming on. I ran as high as E58 with no problem other than 37 MPG. I used a graduated cylinder and water to separate the ethanol from the fuel to determine the percentage. |

WOW. I have no idea how your doing that. my car literally has trouble RUNNING on as low as E16. spits and sputters grumpy as hell. and I got no where NEAR 46mpg on that tank. it was so low I did not even record it. (below 40mpg) though it never did throw a code. just ran like crap. wonder if I had some serious water in that tank? |

Here is what 5000 in-town Metro miles on Mobil 1 full synthetic 0W-20 run through a Bosch filter looks like:![]() Now, am I going to leave this oil in twice as long because some California technocrat who doesn't know a camshaft from a carburetor says doing so will make me a better citizen? Nope... Edited by Cobrajet25, Dec 20 2011, 06:32 AM.

I have been thinking about this whole changing every 3k miles thing and I am not so sure it isn't the manufactures who are pushing it as well. I am thinking with a great filter, I can change less often. Check out this new comparison I found. Even though it is for a Tacoma, it seems to apply to a lot of other cars too. http://parts.olathetoyota.com/tacoma-oil-filter-comparison.html -Tim |

Speak for yourself. As for the clean engine I'm betting the ethanol is helping. I've seen a well used engine with typical deposits from an 80k turbo engine inside. 8k on e85 and the internals looked like new. Same oil brand and filter. Edited by vr4, Dec 26 2011, 09:54 PM.

Here's something I ran across the other day: Oil centrifuges. Apparently truckers use these to continually clean their oil, and extend the change interval indefinitely. http://www.centrifugefordummies.com/ Here's some test data for you on a V8 Duramax diesel - "The oil went to 37,000 where it needed to be changed because of contamination by fuel caused during the changing of an injector." http://www.dieselcraft.com/Media/OC25_TestData.pdf |
