When you head out the door to your Metro after work and notice that for no apparent reason someone has totally bent and all but ripped off your antenna. That really chaps my...well you know what. I am royally pissed but just ordered a new one.

Yea, that would piss me off. Thankfully, the antenna on my car is just for looks. LOL

It connects to nothing, I have a ~3' length of 12awg wire for an antenna. It just hangs around behind the dash.

And how does that work? I was thinking of a antenna delete on one of my Metro projects and thought about a hidden antenna that couldn't be seen at all.

It works OKAY, but not as well as a proper antenna. I have a MP3 CD player and an AUX input so I almost never use the FM radio anyway. I usually play music from my Android phone.

Considering since Clear Chanel took over all the radio stations and made DJs obsolete, and the same 7 songs get rotated every hour, not a bad idea. Just don't seem to have the time to record or download. And the radio is not as entertaining as it was when I was younger. Music has become rather stagnent and most of the groups all look and sound a like since MTV came about.

you know that they still sell the windsheild antennas, they are a thin strip like thing that sticks to the edges of the window, and wrap around to where the rear view mirror is. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Windshield-Mount-Electronic-Antenna-Car-FM-Radio-/120764964585?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1e271ee9#ht_2349wt_1270

Yep, music radio sucks. I like talk radio. Seems I'd rather try to learn something than listen to bubble gum music.

Anybody know of a good pocket size AM radio that runs on AAA batteries?

Try AARP. :-/ They sent me an FM radio with the little ear head phones I don't like. It was for some insurance promotion of theirs and I'm no longer a member.
It is maybe 4" long and 1"x1/2". I'll send you it, or pics first, if you want. I have not used it so I can't say it's "good."

My car is also radio optional. It was removed before I found it (to buy/get roadworthy) .I haven't had the $$or time to do anything about it, so antenna stays retracted.

Why you Mutt!

You can also get those little rubber ducky antennas from WalMart, probably other places as well. I used one for a while, screwed the mounting screw into the remains of my antenna mast. Worked OK, but not as good as a regular rod antenna.

I now have a replacement 31" (about 1/4 wavelength for FM) antenna which also came from Wally World...works pretty good. Using the stock 1991 AM/FM/Cassette radio, I can get Fresno FM stations in Tehachapi, at night pick up as far as Vancouver, BC, Dallas, TX and every now and then as far as New Owalins.

The problem is, unless you are listening to NPR or Pacifica, there just ain't nuthin' really worth listening to on the radio anymore, except for a ball game now and then. You might just want to delete the antenna, and get some books on tape or CD from the library (great for long commutes).

With or without speakers?

This is known for having exceptional DX'ing, selectivity and image rejection, but no built in speaker.

Single AA battery lasts a LONG time.
Here's a review

This one is decent and has a built in speaker

I think it takes 2 AA batteries.

I have this one too, but the wife mainly uses it.

2AA's, she changes it every 3 months'ish.

Have this one too - single AAA. People say it pulls in distant stations well but I don't think it's as good as the first one above. Digital tuning though.
