Seeking Parts; Geo Metro 1994 needs help!

This is my first forum post ever! I have a Geo Metro 1994 and I want to preserve her. However, Elderberry as I like to call her has two outside door handles that have broken, the heater does not work because of a missing part (essentially a plastic vent) is gone, and the lock cylinder on the drivers side does not work. Any suggestions of where to go to get used parts? Buying new ones is insanely expensive and I am not having good luck at my local junk yards. I believe in fixing something instead of getting something new. All suggestions would be appreciated!

where are you located--"Pacific Northwest" makes it hard to reccomend a local place to you.

Watch Craigslist for parts cars, you can also search here http://www.car-part.com/ . Other forum members near you can also likely make good suggestions. Good Luck!

Duct tape heals all wounds

And of course you can place a 'want' ad right here in the -> Wanted <- section of the forum :type

Also, car-part is a junkyard search engine that you can use to search within a 100 or so miles of your location

Wow such great quick responses. I am a fan of this forum for sure! I live in Washington State and have not had luck with nearby junkyards, but I live in the sticks at times. :)

Back in my day, things were hard. Couldn't get new door handles. Had to go to the junk yard, in the snow - middle of the summer - snow - waist deep in mud. :x

It was hard, and we liked it. We loved it.

And if you found a Geo Metro, the door handles were usually gone. Too bad. :(

It was hard, and we liked it. We loved it.

And when you did find a Geo Metro with door handles, something would be broken, or you would break it taking it off of the car, so you had to find another car. :banghead

It was hard, and we liked it. We loved it.

Now, they sell them new on Ebay. What's the world coming to? :'(

Yeah they sell them on ebay and then sell you the wrong freaking part! But at least I was not buried in mud. :) Just frustration of a different sort. It seems that everything is beginning to fall apart on my car. Now I need a new window track with rubber for my driver side window and ventilation ducting so that my heater will work again. The car has 165,800 miles on it, and I stare lustily at the hybrid prius' on the road dreaming of an electric car. Does this make me a traitor to the geo? Do I need more mechanics in my life...probably.

Good bye

I look at Chevy Volts like the one my brother in law has and then I think of my monthly car payment. I am very happy with my Metro.
