Someone nearby is selling a metro 3 cylinder engine for $200 and transmission for $200. I'm considering buying and swapping out. Just went through emissions and have high hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide numbers. My #2 cylinder is bad. Maybe I should just swap out the engine. |

For $200 you could buy it, swap it with yours and after some testing sell yours for $200. I think I got $300 for the last engine I sold (and it was rebuilt !). |

Bill, Which one of your cars are you talking about? The '89 or the '93? GG |

Well, I was thinking of buying it. Going through it and doing a rebuild if necessary and then swapping it. I think the seller said he paid $400 for the engine , but realized he did not need it. |

Yea, it's not like I can start it up and try it! Should I be able to turn it with a wrench? Do compression test that way? |

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just try and get it for less, if possible. Plan to do a rebuild. |

In my neck of the woods engines go for 145 from the junk yard. So I suppose $200 is okay if it is already pulled and halfway clean. |

its worth it for spare parts anyway, get the head rebuilt, and rebuild it while its outside the car? then install it. |

Wow! Here in the great white north a cylinder head would get that from the wreckers. I picked up a complete throttle body for my 94 last week and it was $60 with me removing. He wanted $400 for the longblock. Hard to justify a spare engine for rebuild at that cost. |
