The absolute best performance products anyone can put in a vehicle are from a company called BG! There are no fuel system cleaners on the market at any price better than BG44K! Every product sold by BG will out perform any retail product hands down. Try it and be sold! BG44K sells for $24.99 a 11oz. can it will treat 15 gallon of fuel and if someone put it in your car without you knowing you will come back in a week asking why your car now runs better than it did when it was brand new, this stuff is that good! Just go to bgproducts.com and get some. |

Chevron Techron. Just go to Wal Mart or any Auto Parts store and get some. Seems to be the same as BG44K. I've read this more than one place. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=105559 http://geometroforum.com/topic/4551987/ |

I'll give you BG44 for a FUEL injector cleaner, however it has been proven over and over again that MMO is pretty much the most effective oil additive you can buy in a store, plus it's cheap. However, if you want the hands down BEST OIL additive it is: Kreen, and it's not even close: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1940735#Post1940735 |

I would add seafoam to that category as well. Thats just me. So many people trying to seperate people from their money by using slick little marketing pratices and talking up a product way beyond that products actual performance ability. |

The day I see a can of anything you dump in your tank fix an engine issue like worn rings, scored cylinders, or clean excessive carbon deposits ( especially out of our EGR valves), I will eat my metro! If you have ever cleaned out your EGR with carb cleaner and whatever you can use to chisel the carbon out, you will see just how hard carbon deposits are to remove with carb cleaner which is more concentrated and more powerful than something dilluted in your gas tank, then burned in your cylinders before ever entering the EGR system, and you will see there is no way something dumped in your gas will clean those deposits out. Reality check. There is no quick fix. No Miracle in a can. Never has been, never will. Carbon is part of the molecular structure of fuel and dumping chemicals in your tank will not change it or make it go away. The only 100% sure fire way to keep carbon out of your engine is to never start it. Once it builds up, the only way to remove it is to clean it out by hand. Periodically running something like seafoam through your system will not keep carbon deposits out of your EGR either. The seafoam will burn up in your combustion chamber before it ever gets to the EGR system. As far as restoring lost compression and stopping smoking and all of that B.S., you can not replace metal that has worn away from rings and cylinders with something you dump in your gas. You can not replace gasket material or magically make rubber seals that have hardened soft again by dumping something in your oil. Sure you can dump in some of that "honey" that makes your oil really thick and that will slow the leak, but just think for a second how badly that is restricting the flow of oil through your filter. That's worse than running gear oil in your engine. If you have an issue, you need to fix it correctly, not dump something in your gas or oil, unless you like throwing your money in the toilet and flushing it. |

I bow to your expertise and experience. At the same time I have a question. When I purchased my Metro (very used) it used a quart of oil every 200 miles or so, got about 35 MPG, and ran good but sluggish. Ran this way for about 4 tankfuls of gas. Then I did an oil change using MMO and started using MMO in the gas tank. Within the next 4 gas tanks the oil usage dropped to zero (as long as I stay below 70 MPH), the gas mileage went to 45-50 (as long as I stay below 70 MPH), and it SEEMS to have more power. If not caused by MMO useage, why the difference? |

I have always said that MMO will work, maybe. I have no disagreement with allmountain40's dissertation. The bottom line summary is there is no additive that will replace metal, and the best way to keep carbon out, is not to let it get there in the first place. Routine maintenance is the key to engine longevity. Just ask JellyBeanDriver . . .

Oldman, the increase in Mileage was most likely due to the MMO cleaning your injector. That is the one thing that dumping a can in your tank can affect. As far as oil consumption is concerned, A common thing I have seen is that oil filters will leak at the seal if they have been left on too long. Remember, the seal is rubber and will get hard with age. I would be willing to bet when you changed your oil, the filter had oil on the exterior with a little droplet at the bottom ready to drop. I would bet your oil usage was really a seeping leak at the filter. Most people treat these as throwaway cars. Every metro I have ever bought was seriously lacking in the routine maintenance department. They never do any maintenance, They only drive them and I bet your filter had been on way too long and was leaking. Once you changed your oil, and replaced the filter, leak fixed, oil consumption stopped. |

They will on occasion, loosen up stuck rings or sticky lifters and help rejuvenate rubber seals that have been sat too long. But then again, so will an oil change and some exercise. Could very well be that your car was going to stop leaking and ticking anyway, you're just giving the credit to MMO. |

I will say, 99% of these products are bull shit. Snake oil is bull shit, and the reason we all buy it anyway is because we are surrounded by bull shit since birth. George Carlin had it right, I couldn't have said it better myself |
