Hey, I don't see too much trouble towing a teardrop. There are teardrops made for motorcycles. You would need a decent hitch, though.

I don't know if you've noticed, but many motorcycles have bigger engines than our metros Posted Image

Lots of people have towed trailers behind their geo. Nerys had a trailer for awhile that would be loaded for a few hundred pounds of stuff. The important thing to note is that the geo metal is flimsy and thin. Your weakest point is where the hitch is attached to the car, so figure a way to distribute the attachments. Don't just have two bolts holding the hitch to the car. Use washers, add in some metal in between. just spread the load.

considered it. bought a new trailer rolling stock kit from Fred Meyer
(Krogers in your area) for $120. Its weight is 199 pounds, figured
another couple hundred pounds of aluminum skin and another couple
hundred pounds of kitchen and bed stuff and I should have a 600
pound camper for two people that my Metro would be happy with.----
rolling frame is together: Pic,---

I still have my trailer I still use it rather often. almost weekly :-) not so much in the winter though. I might be using it wednesday. local junk store has a grill I really like. want to go get it.

Just watch your total mass. when you hit the brakes 100% of that force willpivot on those trailer wheels right into your hitch and all that force only into the METAL you bolt it too. Not many bits of metal in these cars can handle a ton of force.

also watch your aero. your going to take a staggeringly massive hit on MPG's if the aero is bad.

hi curtis,

i have extensive hauling experience with my metro and trailer ... not a teardrop. there was a photo in a past thread. i welded a large triangular shaped steel plate across the entire width of the back of the metro concealed behind the bumper and then welded a steel tube extension to the bottom of the spare tire well. i've often hauled well over 1000lbs but only locally / short 15mi freeway trips .... and weight distribution is critical. the weight and aerodynamics should work but will decrease your speeds and mileage .... mine used to drop to 40+/- when hauling. long trips will be tedious at those weights and 55 should be your top speed always. presuming a good hitch mount, brakes are the weak point and watchful anticipation is always needed when driving. you will probably use 4th gear most of the time depending on the specifics of the trailer. good luck.
