perfect thanks!

and the weather is warming up here (from a high of 20 on tuesday) to the 50s this weekend so I won't mind working oh the car as much.

I'm adding a quick important note. Just replace the belt instead of retightening over and over. I tightened mine, real real tight and lost about 10mpg! Best advise is to simply replace the belt. And at 15 to 20 bucks it shouldnt be to hard.

All,

I know it's a little different on my custom aircraft G10, but alternator belt squealing STOPPED once I installed a battery switch that I used to disconnect the battery when I wasn't flying, so the battery wouldn't drain down too much if 3 weeks went by without flying. A partially drained battery can result in additional load, resulting in the belt squealing. If you have a ground fault somewhere in the electronics, it could put your car in this situation where it always has a high starting load until the battery gets charged up a bit. And as it grinds up the belt, the belt will need to be retightened, etc.

I picked up this alternator tensioner. You can get them from an '88-'92 Ford Probe/Mazda MX6/Mazda 626:

Compared to the OEM one which is so lame... After I bent it to shape, cut out a notch to fit around a water pump bolt & drilled a hole for the alternator guard (still need to tap it). It's just zip tied for now.

You just need to get a little "S" bend in the bracket. It's tough thick steel, so it takes some pounding with a heavy hammer.

No more squealing alternator/water pump belt...EVER! :thumb
