No, I've never heard of that. Engine-brite or something similar works fine. If you are talking about cleaning for an engine rebuild I just use gasoline and a paint brush. |

I soaked a block in liquid tide once. Styrofoam ice chest with the block tossed in. Added tide and let it set outside in the sun all day. Did a pretty good job of taking the crude off the hard to get areas. Don't know if it was worth the $25 for the cost of the tide. The sun heated the tide up to 90-100*. |

I never have tried the tide but the next one I clean I am going to get a gallon of this (http://geometroforum.com/topic/4621488/1/#new) and heat it up to about 100 degrees and I know it will clean it well. Engine shops use hot tanks in this manner. Get a gallon of this stuff and heat it up and put it in a wash tub with the engine block and a brush and it will clean it. I have used kerosene and jetfuel in the past but this would be better. I dont know what is in it that makes it cut varnish and carbon so well but it does. Wear Rubber gloves and avoid breathing the crap. |
