so for the past day or 2 ive been textn this kid about his car on craigslist. An 88 crx hf! After finding more info and negotiations I got the price from 1400 to 1050. He said 1050 was bottom dollar. Then I asked if anyine else was interested. He said a guy is supposed to be stopping by tuesday or wednesday to give 1100 for it. so I ask to see it tomorrow. He said that I can come at 3.30 but I have to pay 50 more than the other guy. I was kinda confused so I said the price is now 1150 instead of 1050....he said yep. WTF. So I respond with thanks but not interested any more.

Does that not sound like a shitty way to do business? I would have to be there first and pay more. Plz someone on here tell me that is wrong...

He had a better offer. I don't see the problem.

Neither do I really. I put an 88 T top Camaro on craigslist and asked $1000 for it. I had so many offers for it I raised it to 2000 and still sold it. Some people just don't know the worth of something until they test the market.

Grr

hehehe yeah thats the way to do it :-)

but sure if he has a semi confirmed offer to buy versus your "maybe" after I see it I don't blame him for playing it that way.

go check it out. SOMEHOW unless the other offer truly is serious if you waves $1000 in front of his face I just don't see him turning it down.

I agree. The thing about craigslist ads is that they aren't professional sellers. They wanna get rid of their crap as fast as they can for as much as they can. You have to jump on something really quick to get a good deal. Like my Geo! I found it on craigslist last week for $400 and the ad had been posted for about 2 hours. I jumped all over it and here I am.

Gotta love Craigslist.

There is a guy here in my area who advertised a later model Metro with front end damage and blown airbags. It's a 3/5, so it's the one to have. "Make offer". "Wife wants it gone," the ad said. "The engine alone can sell for $1000" (apparently there is a parallel universe where 140k Metro motors sell for this much).

I emailed him, and offered him $600. Never heard back, and the ad was pulled.

A couple days later, the ad was reposted, and he now wanted $800 for the car, and he added that he didn't want any more "lowball" offers...whatever that means. As if there is some set price range for wrecked 15-year-old Metros.

Ad disappears again. Now it is back, with a $1000 asking price. And he's bitchin' about the "hundreds of emails" he had on the car even though HE is the one that invited offers on it in the first place!

I hate all the half-assed auctioneers on Craigslist. They are one of my least favorite things about that site. Sheesh...why not just auction the damned thing on Ebay and save us all the trouble??

Its just a big bidding game. Say there is no other buyer? You wait and offer him less and usually you will get it. Say there is a buyer? You've lost it, but another one always shows up.

The guy is trying to get top dollar for it. asking $50 more than the highest offer isnt too much when it comes to cars.

On a side note, it an extra $50 is that big of a difference for you, do you really need to be buying a new car right now? Maybe it'd be better to wait and save that money for when your geo takes a crap.

Way I got it, it was an extra $100. I'd be a bit pissed too. Talk to the guy, get an established price. On the way over he raises the price on me? I'd hit his car on the way out, then offer 400 less for it later for body damage.

I'm with DGR on that one, your getting too worked up over something that is not yours. The value of anything is only what 2 people agree it is, if you don't agree it is worth what the seller is asking, counter offer.

The seller can accept your offer, make a counter proposal, decline, etc. You can continue to negotiate, or walk away, but until you lay down money for it the item is still the sellers and he can pretty much do what he wants with it.

You will live longer if you don't get worked up over things you have no control over though, and you should always be prepared to walk away from anything you don't need to sustain life.
