Was looking for Geo Metro to buy, found a 97 LSi listed on Craigslist for parts. I asked if he would sell the whole car, he said yes and I went to look at it. He wanted $450 for the 1.3 with what sounded like a broken piston in it. He would have sold the Auto Trans for $200. if someone wanted. He told me he would sell the car with 165,000 miles, bad half shaft maybe two, and a "ticking" engine and a dent on the rear fender, door hinges that Sagged, DRLs didn't work, and a bent hood that didn't close well for $800.00! I said NO how about $300? He said NO he could sell parts and make much more. Got him to $550.00 and found out he recycles vehicles for a living.

I made a final offer of $400.00 and call me if you change your mind. He never called.
Did I pass on a good deal? I know he did not pay more that $50 for that car.

did you happen to see Project nightmare? I ended up paying 150 for it. Broken half shaft, kid painted, and burnt valve, i replaced a window, put on a new cv shaft, primered the drivers side, and replaced the head, and it runs like a top, all for under 300 bucks. I think you did a good job walking away, If he does call you back and ask if you'd go to 450, might be worth that, but i wouldnt go ANY higher.

Lol...I talked to that guy, also. I was looking for a good red rear hatch for my '97, and the one he had didn't have rear defrost.

I thought about making him an offer on the whole car, and it likely would have been in the $300-400 range.

I can understand asking $500-$700 for a wrecked Metro that has a really good drivetrain. But for a ratty car with a bad motor $800 is ridiculous. He won't even get $200 for scrap value. I think he will be calling you back.

I also think that, unless someone out of their mind buys it. Lol

Well....the 97 LSi still sits at the sellers house. I got the price to $400 and drove it around some didn't like the CV axle noises at all. Both are blown out. Headliner sagging really bad and.....it needs and exhaust so I bailed I offered $300 he said no so I thanked him and went home.

Something tells me I would have been in to a hell of a project with this one and lost my butt!

Yea dont rush it geeo....that sounded like a pos. If it has sagging hinges then the frame may be junk too.
