The trany is great because you have that tall 5th....I'd compare it to the metro's trany bevause it's simple.
As far as milage, yea 50MPG is just not going to happen with the last gen. The 1.3L from the 80's you'll probably be better off.
I agree the tranny is simple but it is a lot harder to find an hf tranny. And you are the first person ive heard say I couldnt get 50.....even on fuelecon.gov it says 49 highway and those bumbers imo are low.

If you don't get the CRX, you might keep trying to find a VX or an HX. I really like the look of the CRX, but couldn't seem to get my legs under the steering wheel, & I don't have fat legs. See my post below & drool. lol

If you want to get 50MPG try and find some VX alloy wheels , those are super light (But Good Luck because the tuners hold on to those). Also try and use the lightest oil possible for your area. 50MPG is achievable but I have to be honest with you, if you drive like every normal person on the road and keep up with the flow of traffic you are looking at the high to mid 40's.

CRX's are absolutely amazing cars. Anyone who knows anything about cars cannot deny this. Even my mechanic father who is extremely judgmental about cars says that the CRX's where great cars. Problem is that nearly all of them have VTEC Engine Swaps, Big unnecessary mufflers, bucket seat swaps, swapped out steering wheels, short shifters, spray painted with rustoleum and lowered. I've only seen one CRX around here that appeared stock from the outside. All the High School student owned CRX's have of course been modified. Same goes for Civics 92-2000, aside from my friends 99 civic, it's completely stock w/ 123K miles on it. Anyways, if history really does repeat itself the Celica's, Supra's, Evo's, 300ZX, CRX's, Civics, ect are going to viewed like 60's-70's muscle cars are viewed right now, only they will be Japanese cars, not American cars. I myself am a Japanese/German car lover, but I do like a lot of fords as well.

I found a nice CRX HF last year. It was an AZ car in stock condition with 70K on the clock. The guy wanted $8500 for it (book value was something like $1500). I offered $4500 for the car (three times book value) and he just laughed at me.

Any idea what he sold it for?

You wouldn't because the are impossible to find.

IIRC, the mileage was 35K vs 70K (or something like that - has been a while).

There is one on Craigslist where I live .The guy wants 2200 but its not working ...has no spark. I know how to fix that easily so that does not scare me , my only problem is the 2200. I'd sell my Metro if I can get it to pass smog.
