so,

the other day i ventured over to sams club to pick up a few supplies...(ass wipe, paper plates, some select can goods, and a five pound bag of Good and Plenty's.

as i entered, they have a table set up with a few electronic items and this guy holds up one of those android tablets and says "on sale."
i have a desk PC and a laptop, so i really never even concidered a tablet...nor did i really want one.

so i asked the guy "how much??" (i know ipads and galaxys are around $500.00 waaaay out of my price range) and he says $150.00...i said "no shit??? let me see one..."
he shows me this dealie-o...its a Vizio 8 inch wifi tablet. its wifi, flash ready. has an external sd card input, HDMI out, bluetooth, headphone jack, and a camera/video cam.

yep, i bought it....the guy even tossed the leather case in for free.

still trying to get used to the touch screen and not having a mouse, but im getting it figured out...this thing is actually pretty cool.
i do not have a smart phone, so this is my first taste of "android technology"..not sure what to think yet...looks like you could do alot with this damn thing...especially with all these apps....(besides angry birds) well see what i can come up with.

I still want an HP Touchpad...
The Operating System they loaded on the HP tablets where absolute junk. I believe they had Palm OS. Best Buy bought hundreds of thousands of those tablets and sent them back to HP because they didn't sell well at all. HP ended up liquidating the 16GB versions for $99.99, the 32GB for $149.99 AND the 64GB for $199.99 but about 2 weeks after they started liquidating them someone wrote a code to allow android to be loaded on those touchpads. If you can get one of the 16GB versions for $99.99 and load Android on it you've got a winner of a tablet.

That seems like a really good deal for that tablet, I wonder if we have that deal going on around here, I may just pick it up. The Kindle Fires really catch my eye though..My friend got one from his mother on Christmas and it's awesome.

I don't know much about tablet androids, but my wife picked a couple up for my daughter at Christmas time. She bought a Pad Digital 7"and a Polaroid 7" at Kohls. She paid $92 for the P.D. and $79 for the Polaroid. I tried them both and couldn't get the P.D. to load Adobe Flash. It was also very slow to boot up. The Polaroid worked great right out of the box, so I got the honor of returning the P.D. after Christmas. My daughter kept the Polaroid and was thrilled with it. She used it on a trip to N.Y.C. with my wife after the holiday and had no complaints.
Wouldn't you know that yesterday, my wife was lifting a pile of papers out of a box in the garage and the Polaroid fell out and smashed on the cement floor. :banghead The touchscreen shattered and the unit is junk. I called Polaroid and they'll send me a new one for ...$80. That's normally half price because the retail on it was $179.
BTW.. I can't seem to find the Polaroid for sale anywhere. I'm not sure if they make them anymore. They were originally sold by Kohls and Menards, but both websites don't show them now.

That's nice. I just bought a Kindle Fire, but I could sure use an extra inch of screen, an SD card slot, and $50 in my pocket.

WOH its 1024x768 that is the resolution I need. but its almost 2 inches smaller than the "ideal" XGA size for magazines (10inches)

can I send you a PDF to load on it full screen (no zooming full page full screen) and tell me if you can "read" it ?

yeah car nut your son sucks. what he got was the Asus Transformer Prime. $500 of tablet deliciousness.

Nerys....

sure...i was playing with pdf's yesterday...check it out. (i downloaded the adobe reader app)

here i have all of my service pdfs..(being read from an SD card.

i think its very readable..(my thumb for scale)

i chose the automatic vs single page or continuous...single page is too small...but you can "pinch zoom" if you want.

here it is in portrait...i like landscape much better.

I like single page portrait as if its a magazine.

that looks VERY readable to me (I have pretty good eyes for reading I like my stuff tiny so I can fit it all on the screen at once)

I went to great lengths to compact my display on my phone for an example here is my mail screen.

I will get you a sample to run. Don't worry if its hard to read my only concern is "can" you read it if you can physically read it I will probably like it just fine :-)

Here is the file. its under 5mb

http://www.mylittlemouse.com/other/outside.pdf

load this in portrait as "single page" so you see the whole page on the screen.

goto the pages with the tiny text. namely the "contents" page and the "cliff ocean" exposure page.

it might be hard but are the words clear ie are they legible. a larger picture like what you posted already would be wonderful!

okay...the resolution is great...small, but very readable.
the picture resolution is low because i resize the pictures to be more friendly here on the forum, but i think you can see the result.
