My first BB gun I had when I was a kid was a Crosman 760 Pumpmaster rifle. I killed a lot of varmints with that rifle and today they are mostly plastic and cheap, but a decent beginner's rifle for $40.00. I added a scope to the one I got last year and it's pretty accurate when using .177 pellets.......![]() I wanted something with more power and got a Stoeger X20 1200 FPS break barrel rifle and this is one very nice rifle. It's high quality and very accurate. Not only that, it's deadly. We have a ground hog problem where I work and the boss does not care if we kill them. One shot from this rifle will take down a very large ground hog with no problem. The other mechanic was so impressed he bought one too........... ![]() My next purchase is going to be a pellet pistol. This is a Umarex Desert Eagle CO2 powered pistol. I will let you know when I get it............ ![]() I have never got into real firearms or guns because I don't plan on hunting large game or shooting anyone. I love target shooting with the air guns and the ammo is dirt cheap! |

I have a benjamin in .177 and .22 cal and my friend had a old sheridan blue streak. Also had a crossman rifle as well as cock type pistol. Recently bought my father a break barrel type from bass pro but do not recall what the manufacturer was. Expensive little rifle with scope though. |

i've got a gamo 1200. it's pretty beast. they come with silencers now but those are 250+. might as well just buy a 22 at that price. i can shoot anything smaller than a possum without waking up the neighbors anyway with the 1200. |

Will the labeling on the box tell me if the gun needs an O2 cartridge? Im thinking about getting one from walmart but don't want to have to be replacing cartridges all the time. What does "air rifle" mean? I prefer to cock the rifle with a lever, not by having to break the barrel to pump it up. |

Actually, if I recall correctly with the break barrel design your actually cocking a spring. Air rifle would be any rifle that its projectile is propulsed by air, whether it is compressed air created by the rifle itself or one that you replace co2 cartridges. They both use compressed air. |

Thing is that I can't figure out from the box whether the gun gets pumped by a lever or uses an O2 cartridge. Hate to be out somewhere with the gun and find out I need to trip on down to walmart for a box of O2 cartridges. That sucks. |

You could always make the guy at the gun counter tell you if the gun needs the C02 cartridges. I MAY be wrong but most of the rifles are either a pump up action where you pump it like 1-10 times or the faster more expensive one cock type break barrels rifles. I don't think they typically do rifles with C02 cartridges. If you remember the manufacturer name that you were looking at you could possibly look up the gun on their site to find the info. I am with you concerning having to replace C02 cartridges....that is a no go as far as I am concerned. Good luck. |

So true! Luckily, I've gone about guns the opposite from most folks. Everyone I know started recklessly with a bb gun and then got into more responsible shooting and high calibers. I started with a Desert Eagel .44 Mag. Used it for plinking and then just put it away for a decade. After Iraq, I came home and bought a Thompson Omega .50 call muzzleloader for hunting. Within the next year and half, I picked up an AR-15 in 5.56, a Henry .22 Lever Action, a Phoenix HP22, Davis .22 Mag derringer, and a Crossman Pumpmaster 760. So, I'd had a long history of firearms and safety. The first time I fired the BB rifle, I set up a range down in my basement to sight in. It was a modest setup, maybe 30 feet with cinder block wall as a backstop. I put up a soup can on a board as a target. Luckily, I was prudent enough to wear safety glasses! I pumped it up to the max and took aim at the can, carefully squeezing the trigger and... Ping! The bb hit the can and bounced back off the concrete wall right into my eye!!! |

Is that the Air force Condor? I've been wanting one. It refills from a scuba tank, or you pump the canister up with a tire pump. Thing is almost a thousand bucks! Also been looking at some of the higher caliber GAMO rifles that you can use for deer hunting and wild hogs (for those I'd need a backup gun) Edited by BillHoo, Jan 12 2012, 09:52 AM.

I have the Stoeger X-50, in 22 cal. I like it alot. not sure yet about the factory scope, 3-9x50mm. I might change that out. the place to go for info and equipment is "Pyramyd Air". They have 100's of pellets, including sabots. I have some 22 cal sabots that are .170, SMOKEN', 9.2 grains!!!! My heavy rounds are 28.4 grains, avrage 22 cal LR goes 32-33gr. with a 22.0gr. pellet, my X-50 will go clean through 1/2 in. plywood at 35 yards. There are air guns in 357 cal 45 cal 50 cal. these are Precharged cartridge, up to 3500psi. . websites: "Pyramyd Air" for guns +ammo + etc. . "Shooting Eggs" Cool info, how to make tracers, incindiary rounds. See the 50 cal "dragonslayer" destroy 8 two liter bottles of coke. "BlackHogDown" All hogs killed with air guns, yea hogs, often with one shot. . dont worry about putting an eye out!! Edited by sphenicie, Jan 12 2012, 11:57 AM.

Heres my .22 cal. Good strong gun for a air rifle and fairly accurate.![]() ![]() This is like the crossman pistol I used to own. I sold mine to a friend. I was not impressed with this too much. ![]() Heres one like my friend had when we were kids, sheridan blue streak. It was a monster in its time. I believe sheridan eventually sold out to benjamin. ![]() Of all I have owned and shot I think the break barrels are the best. |
