So the family and I set out on an excursion to wallyworld. Before we make it two miles down the road, my wife's boss calls and tells her to come to work. Ok, so I pivot and start to think what can I do with my son that might be fun, entertaining, and educational.

Let's go to a museum.

There is a brand new high tech, state of the art museum that just opened in Bentonville, called Crystal Bridges. Fancy, smanchy. My son and I go and walk in free of charge thanks to a gift from the family of Sam Walton. We cruise into the modern era of art work. Yikes!!!!!!!! Where in the #$%^ do these artists get their degree from????? The first display I saw was of a maniquin that had hundreds of kiddy toys sticking out of it on thin rods. WTF, where is the art in that?

I must say the modern stuff was plain pure crap. But once we legged it over to the revolutionary period, I then started seeing the better side of the art world. There were a couple of paintings of George Washington. Nice to see the real thing instead of a pic in a book or on the internet. Good artists in the 1800's.

Mainly the displays were of paintings, but there were a few statues, books, and other displays, like a room of marquetry. The building itself was a grand display of money being thrown at this endeavour. I noticed that the concrete pillars that were everywhere were ground down smoother than a babies butt. Very nice tactile feel. Also within the concrete were miles of tight grained red wood planks sanded down to match the feel of the concrete. I asked my son how many red wood trees had to die to make this museum? He said a lot.

Overall the experience was a bust. Glad I didn't have to spend cold hard cash to visit it. If anyone is in the area, I recommend stopping in if the cost is still free, but if you have to pay, just look it up on the internet. Yawn.

The next museum we visited was the Daisy BB museum in downtown Rogers Arkansas. Located on the corner of two cobblestoned streets, it was a fantastic look back at the earliest to latest models of all Daisy BB guns. Although the saunter through the museum was quick, There were about a hundred different types of BB guns displayed. I never knew that there were BB guns in the 1770's. Yep, its true, because that was the first display you saw. Darn nice guns which reminded me of authentic flintlocks until I read the descriptions.

If you get a chance to see this museum I highly recommend it. It only costs two bucks and kids under 16 are free. It is a very quick tour, but for two bucks I feel you get your moneys worth. Also they have a fine selection of BB guns available for purchase at the end of the tour. I spied a Grizzlie that is only $78 with scope, a few pellets, and some silver dollar sized targets. I might go back just to get that gun.

If you are asking yourself why I didn't get some pics of the museum stuff, its because I was lazy today. I wanted to spend the time I had with my son, not snapping pics and taking away from our time together.

Thanks for reading, hope this might entice someone to want to visit this neck of the USA.

Thats cool. Museums are very interesting. When I was taking a non western art class I had to go to the stl art museum often. It was nice seing the older art. I agree with you 100% about new art. Most of it is stupid. Most art within the last 30 years is hideous.
I was not big into asian art before but after I started to like the asian scrolls. I also like the ming dynasty art. When hew was burried they made several thousand life size soldierd around his tomb...and iirc that was in 2000 bc.

Any old museum with old stuff is just cool. I like seeing how much better things were made and looked.

That bb gun museum would be cool too.

Hey dayle about 15 to 20 years ago when I was real young we use to go close to little rock for vacation. One tim we went to a classic car museum. I have no idea where it was but somewhere closer to little rock. Do you have any idea of what im talking about? (i,know vague description)

Sorry horn, the only museum(s) I know of in Little Rock is the Bill Clinton Massage Parlor and trailor park......er, ah,......I mean Presidential Museum. About the only other things around LR I know of is some antique malls in England AR. Cool stuff if you like old artsy fartsy big @$$ furniture that weighs a ton.

Clintons Museum is very nice. Sits on the banks of the Arkansas river and is situated very close to an old train tressle. I didn't have time to visit it when I was there last year, but one day I will go and see the interior. It does look like a mobile home sitting over the river bank, but I swear that pictures in magazines or on the internet do not do it justice. It is HUGE when seen close up. Very nice grounds, also.

Billy, I have been to the NAS Pensacola. Great stuff. I really really liked the bomb museum that was close by. The bombs were neat to look at also the BUFF and SR-71 sitting in the front yard were boss.

I think I went on the Alabama and was impressed by how big the ship was. There was a submarine next door to the Alabama, but we were hampered by a baby stroller and could not navigate the small doorways of the sub, so maybe next time, I'll give it a whirl.
